The Powet Top 5 – Top 5 Reasons The Transformers Ride is Totally Awesome

Welcome to the Powet Top 5, where we explore the top (and bottom) 5 items we think are relevant to any of a variety of topics that span the imagination. Sit back, read, and respond.

I was not adequately prepared for Transformers: The Ride. I expected to have fun, and to appreciate what I imagined as a fairly straightforward thrill ride with some Transformers window dressing.

Boy, was I in for treat.

Transformers is a fantastic ride. It’s the longest ride at Universal at a whopping four minutes, and it’s an incredible, exciting four minutes. Filled with impressive 3D effects, it really feels like you’re cruising through the Transformers universe. And if that was it, I would have been happy. Luckily, the ride experience is far more than just those four minutes. Here are the top 5 reasons (other than the ride itself) why Transformers: The Ride is amazing.

Transformers G2 Bruticus now up for pre-order on Amazon.com

Transformers Fall of Cybertron is only a month away from being released. Hasbro is putting out five Transformers action figures that combine to form a larger figure called Bruticus, featured in the game. Many fans are excited about an exclusive release of the 5 figures in one set repainted in the Generation 2 scheme of the same combiner group. That set has gone up for pre-order on Amazon.com. If any of you are going to be purchasing the set, we ask you use one of the links below to help us out while you help yourself! If you pre-order the game on Amazon as well, you receive a free code to allow Bruticus to use the G2 color scheme in-game.

Famicom Dojo Podcast: Rent It Now From Your Grocery Store

Things were very different before Game Fly, Netflix, and Red Box. Heck, even before the now-mostly-defunct Blockbuster, the best place to rent video games was from the local grocery store. Do you remember those weird plastic slip cases that VHS tapes would sometimes come in, or the clear plastic shells for NES carts with a badly xeroxed copy of the box cover inside? Of course you do. Sean and Vinnk wonder if game rental is a good way to distinguish between what is a video game console and what is just a computer. Or maybe there’s no distinction? Which consoles are really PCs in disguise… or vice versa? Maybe there just aren’t any answers, but at Famicom Dojo we’ll definitely try to find them! Also, more listener voicemails!

Maximum Letdown: Mario is Missing (Super Nintendo, NES, Macintosh, PC)

It’s not often that Mario’s brother gets the spotlight. The most notable times he was the primary playable character was Luigi’s Mansion, and it’s upcoming sequel. However, the Gamecube cult classic wasn’t the first time Luigi was the star of the show. Nope, that honor belongs to this clunkfest, although many would rather forget about it. Yeah, it has an educational value, but it’s repetitive action and boring gameplay will put kids to sleep.

SDCC 2012: Preview Night reveals MOTU Classics Granamyr, third Accessories Pack and more

News is already starting to trickle in from SDCC 2012. As booths start to be set up by various companies, people are snapping photos and posting them online. We’ve already gotten our very first look at Masters of the Universe Classics Granamyr, the largest figure to be released in 2012. We heard about the helmeted dragon first at last year’s convention, where the fan poll determined his coloration; Red as in the Filmation cartoon or Green as in the mini-comics. Clearly the Red vote has won out. He looks very well articulated, but it is not clear if the figure is rotocasted or not. He is going to be available in December and will be priced at approximately US$80.

Powetcast 127: Kate Upton Jr

I almost feel bad spoiling a joke that comes in the second half of the podcast by producing this week’s photochop album cover. But dammit, I laughed and said I would do it and I’m a man of my word. This also allowed me to image search Kate Upton for research.

This week we discuss the return of Sailor Moon, what it means to read Marvel Now, the casting of a Wolverine sequel, a Beatle teaming up with Bungie, and Kate Upton.

It wasn’t until I wrote this description and had everything all done that I remember George Lopez in an eye patch from episode 55.
