SDCC 2016 – Ghost Rider Comes to Agents of Shield Season 4

The rumors have been officially confirmed. Gabriel Luna (True Detective, Matador) will be taking the role of Robbie Reyes, a.k.a the Ghost Rider on Agents of Shield this forthcoming season. For those who don’t read the comics, Robbie Reyes is the most recent person to take the mantle of the spirit of vengeance. After losing his parents, Reyes lives along with his younger brother Gabe. When he is gunned down by gangbangers, Reyes becomes the Ghost Rider after being bonded with the spirit of Eli Morrow, a victim of gang violence. Rather than using a motorcycle like his predecessors, Reyes instead drives a souped-up muscle car. Instead of having a flaming skull, he wears a skull helmet that’s on fire.

If you’re disappointed that Ghost Rider is a character on Agents of Shield, remember, Reyes isn’t the only Ghost Rider in the comics, and it’s still possible for Marvel to make a movie or Netflix series with the original Ghost Rider, Johnny Blaze (and of course Nick Cage would be nowhere near it this time). While Ghost Rider is an odd choice for Agents of Shield, but then again so were Deathlok and the Inhumans, and they fit quite nicely. It’s great to see Marvel TV dip more into the comics to supplement Agents of Shield.

San Diego Comic Con 2016 – Marvel to Re-Release Ultimate Alliance 1 and 2

Marvel Ultimate Alliance

At the San Diego Comic Con this past week, Marvel producer Mike Jones revealed that the last gen hits Marvel Ultimate Alliance 1 and 2 are coming to Xbox One, PC, and PS4 this Tuesday. The games will be available digitally, with both games carrying a price tag of $40 each or $60 together. The games will feature graphical and UI tweaks, along with other features that will help it fit on current generation systems.

Marvel Ultimate Alliance and its sequel were a pair of action RPGS that put players in the shoes of many of Marvel’s finest, including Captain America, Spider-Man, the X-men, and the Fantastic Four. The first game had players battling Dr Doom and the masters of Evil, while the second game’s plot was inspired by 2006’s Civil War crossover. The games featured 4 player co-op (both local and online), unlockable costumes, and tons of cameos from throughout the Marvel Universe. If you never played these games before, or if you want to revisit them, now is a great time to do so. Who knows? We might even be seeing MUA 3 before long.

MATTEL-thundercat-logo

ToyNewsInternational is reporting that Mattel’s presence at SDCC will be marked by the acquisition of the Thundercats toy license. Mattel has figures to show off based on the classic cartoon in scale with MOTU Classics figures. Lion-O and Vulture have, reportedly been sighted on the floor at SDCC.

Bandai last had the license in 2011, accompanying a failed reboot of the cartoon series on Cartoon Network. With MOTU Classics supposedly winding down this year, Mattel needs another big franchise to supplement MattyCollector. It sounds like they have found that in Thundercats.

We will be reporting further updates as the week and coverage continue!

Each day at SDCC thus far, Marvel has had two new free posters to give out. Each poster features one of the Avengers fighting off Ultron drones. Each of these posters also fit together to form one large mural. That large mural is now complete with the release of the final two posters featuring The Hulk and Thor yesterday. This beautiful piece of art is brought to us by Charlie Wen.

In this art, not only do we see Iron Man, Captain America, Black Widow, Hawkeye, The Hulk, Thor, Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver, but we also get a tiny glimpse of The Vision in the upper left hand corner of the image.

Avengers: Age of Ultron will be coming to theaters on May 1st, 2015.
