Introducing the NES Classic Edition

NES-Classic-1

In the past several years, retro games have been making a comeback via various “Plug ‘n’ Play” devices pre-loaded with a selection of classic titles. Sega, Atari, and SNK have all released mini-consoles featuring a selection of titles from a company’s past. Surprisingly, Nintendo has now thrown its hat into the ring with the NES Classic Edition, a device containing 30 classic first and third party games from the NES era. Designed as a small version of the original NES, the game will contain HDMI hookups and a controller that’s a replica of the NES original. Players can pick up another controller for $9.99, and they have the option of using the classic controller or the classic controller pro. The mini-console won’t have any kind of internet connectivity (meaning the 13 included games are all that you’re getting), but the mini console will support emulator-style save states. The console will be available for $59.99 this November. Click after the jump to see the full list of games included with the device.

Powet News Network: Lucky Glauber Signs with LA Lakers for $90 Million

Lucky

It’s draft season in the NBA. In the wake of the Cleveland Cavaliers’ historic championship win, NBA teams all across the nation are scrambling to make deals for huge trades, promising rookies, and the hottest free agents available. Already the NBA has been shaken up by Golden State’s signing of former Oklahoma player Kevin Durant and Dwayne Wade’s departure from the Miami Heat to join the Chicago Bulls. However, one deal that could potentially eclipse both of those is the LA Lakers’ signing of point guard Lucky Glauber. At a press conference yesterday afternoon, Lucky told reporters to Wake up. “It’s too early for bedtime! We outweigh nuclear arms!” said an excited Lucky. Then as if looking ahead to the finals, Lucky taunted Lebron and the Cavs. “Yo Lebron! Are you really the number one?” Lucky’s remarks indicate that he has serious championship aspirations this year, and won’t hesitate to step on toes to get to them. He ended his press conference with an open challenge to any team seeking to stand against him and the Lakers: “Golden State, Miami Heat, San Antonio, NESTS, Team Fatal Fury and the rest of ya’ll can challenge me anytime!”

The Warriors Coming to TV Thanks to Captain America Producers

warriors-front.jpg Walter Hill’s cult classic The Warriors, which was based upon the novel by Sol Yurick, will be getting a TV series adaptation on Hulu courtesy of the Russo brothers, whom poweteers know as the directors of the last two Captain America films and the next two Avengers films. The original film, released in 1979 told the tale of the Warriors gang as they had to fight their way back to their home base of Coney Island after being framed for the murder of a charismatic gang leader. The film became famous for its outlandish gang member outfits. The film was quite controversial for its day, as acts of violence broke out in a small amount of theaters showing the film. The film gained a following among hip hoppers as well. Craig Mack’s Flava in ya ear remix video opened with the familiar “come out and play” bottle clacking, and the video for Jim Jones/Diplomat’s “Crunk Music” featured scenes inspired by the film. As of now not much is known about the film save that the directors promise that it will “honor the original film while adding its own unique brand of grit, pulp, sex and violence.” Coincidentally, today is also the day that Rockstar’s critically acclaimed video game adaptation is available on the PLaystation 4 as a Playstation 2 classic title. The 2005 brawler served as a prologue to the film, and players got an in-depth look at the Warrior’s world. The game features 1080p upscaling as well as trophies. If you’re a fan of the movie, you’ll want to check it out.

Quake Gets a New Episode From Wolfenstein: New Order Developers Just in Time for 20th Anniversary

It’s a great time to be an old school gamer, especially if you got a PC. Between tons of HD Remasters, a steady stream of Gog.com and steam re-releases, a ton of DOS games made available, upcoming remakes and spiritual successors, mod support for Sega Genesis titles, and new content for games from as far back as 2 decades ago, it’s getting easier and more tempting to revisit the classic (and not so classic) titles of yesteryear. Thanks to machinegames, the guys behind 2014’s Wolfenstein: The New Order, there’s a brand new Quake episode available. That’s right, Quake. From 1996. Check it out above. If you need help on installing it, check out this post on Kotau.

E3 2016: Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

Although Nintendo’s presentation was brief, one of the few games they showed off, Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild easily stole the show. Although details on the plot itself were scarce, it’s clear that there are a number of changes to the game, not the least of which is that the game takes place in an open world similar to western RPGS like Skyrim, Gothic, and Kingdoms of Amalur. According to Nintendo, the game’s world is at least 10 times bigger than that of Twilight Princess. Link can use a horse to get around, and will have to rely on food and clothing, so it appears there is a survival mechanic built into the game. Also for the first time in the series (not counting the CD-I entries), there is actual voice acting and dialogue! Sadly, the game won’t be out until next year on both the Wii U and the upcoming NX. In the meantime, check out Gamespot’s 25 reasons why Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild may be the coolest, craziest Zelda yet.
