You’re a badass, right? You run around and foil evil schemes of your enemy, kick the asses of his henchmen, and save all the innocents that happen to get cross in the crossfire. You do this with speed, style, and cunning.
But what’s this? Your enemy has unleashed his Ultimate Creation upon you and the hapless others around you. It renders your speed and style nearly useless and quadruples the danger-factor in your quest, drastically cutting down your chances of winning the day or even coming out of it alive. You need more than just style and speed, now. You need POWER.
You’re Sonic the Hedgehog and you need to go Super. How do you do this? With the goddamn Chaos Emeralds, that’s how. [Read the rest of this entry…]
More footage of Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 1 has debuted at Tokyo Game Show 2010, with a more in-depth look at some of the levels and badniks of the game – many of which are, like promised, direct copies of their 2D ancestors. If this trailer doesn’t convince oldschool Sonic fans that this game has definite promise as a true successor of the series, then I’m not sure what will. (Because it has me)
Ok, Sonic fans, this isn’t the news you were hoping to hear, but Sega has announced that Sonic 4 Episode 1 has been delayed from its previous summer 2010 release to ‘late 2010’. The reason given was basically to give the development team more time to tweak and fine tune the game. Also announced were the additions of the iPhone and iPod Touch to the list of platform options available for this game.
Not much more was given in terms of details for this announcement. Fortunately, Sonic fans are no strangers to waiting for good games.

The sixteen bit era of video games is considered by many to be the bridge between the past and modern eras of video gaming, and there were two kings of the ring: Nintendo’s Super Nintendo Entertainment System and Sega’s Genesis. Though there were more powerful systems that sprang up around the time, it would be these two that would outlast and outperform all of them, thanks to their accessibility. This was due not only to the technologies that the two systems boasted under the hood, but also with the library of games that were released for the two. It also gave rise to some of those most heated fanboy wars of our hobby. If you think system wars are bad now, you should have seen how bad it was during the 16-bit days, especially when system manufacturers were openly taking pot shots at each other. However, it was pointless for fanboys of both systems to argue with each other, as both systems not only had an equally impressive library of games (even if many multiplatform releases on the Sega Genesis tended to have inferior audio and visual quality to their SNES counterparts), but they outlasted and outsold the more powerful systems that sprang up around the same period. Apparently what started out as a little comment on the Twitter page of video game music icons Overclocked Remix has turned into a little quest for the members of the audio community. After being noticed by a gaming new blog, Press the Buttons, OCR decided that they indeed liked the idea of being put in charge of recording the soundtrack for the newly-dubbed Sonic the Hedgehog 4.
Overclocked is no stranger to gaming soundtracks. They produced the remixed album for the Street Fighter 2 Turbo HD Remix game released last year. It wouldn’t be that far off for the seasoned veterans of the community to pull out some original tunes inspired by the older Sonic games. However, even if Sega decided it might be a good idea, OCR might have to wait until Episode 2 was put into production, bow that Episode 1 is already slated for a release later this year.
There’s been a ton of news recently that’s been thrown around about Project: Needlemouse, the codename for the newest Sonic the Hedgehog game in the works that is banking on the claim that it is going to be a 2D game that throws back to the days of Sonic on the Genesis. Concept art for badniks have been flowing out from SEGA’s blog. They’re also issuing a challenge to their fans…. [Read the rest of this entry…]
