$20 Game of the Week: Injustice – The Gods Among Us Ultimate Edition (PS3, PS4, PS Vita, Xbox 360)

Note: The PS4 version of this title is free for the rest of January 2015 for PS+ members.

Injustice-Ultimate-Edition

Created by NetherRealm studios (the same people behind 2011’s blockbuster Mortal Kombat reboot), Injustice is the first good DC comics game that doesn’t have Batman in the title, nor involves legos. Injustice’s plot, gameplay, features, and character selection makes it the perfect game for both DC comics fans and fighting game aficionados alike. The Ultimate Edition sweetens the pot by adding all the dlc that was previously released from the game. That means you get all the extra costumes, extra characters, and Star Labs missions that were previously released.

$20 Game of the Week: Mortal Kombat Komplete Edition (PC, Xbox 360, PS3, PS Vita)

Mortalkombat2011logo

Like Street Fighter IV two years prior, Mortal Kombat 9 (simply called Mortal Kombat) serves as a revival of everything players loved about the series even as it attracts a new generation of players. Although Midway has long since been dead as a gaming company, the original developers, under the name Netherrealm Studios, haven’t lost a beat as the most recent entry, Komplete with all the DLC characters, walks a fine line between revamped sequel and reboot.

Mortal Kombat X announced with trailer

A trailer was released today announcing Mortal Kombat X. This was not entirely a surprise as series creator, Ed Boon, had been counting down to something on his Twitter account. Amazon UK apparently posted a listing for it prematurely last night, but quickly removed it. It is not clear what systems will be targeted for release, but it is safe to say that XBox One and PS4 are probably on that list considering the incredibly detailed graphics shown. Xbox 360, PS3 and PC were included in the accidental Amazon UK posting, but that can’t be considered official yet. The game will be coming in 2015.

Famicom Dojo Podcast: Your Friend’s House

Famicom Dojo Podcast 90: Your Friend's House

We take a trip over to our friend’s house where everything sounds different. Er, where you play the games that you didn’t play at your house because you didn’t own the system, didn’t own the game, weren’t ALLOWED to own the system or game, or just like the atmosphere better than at your place. And for this episode, we invited a few friends over to our house! Zac, aDam , and Ernie of No Topic Required take over the show for this April Fool’s Day episode. Supposedly Sarah Rattle was there too, but we sure didn’t hear her!

DC Comics unveils INJUSTICE: Gods Among Us brawler from NetherRealm

It looks like some more of that Warner Bros. and DC Comics synergy is coming to fruition. The studio responsible for Mortal Kombat, NetherRealm (part of WB Games) has a new game on the way and it looks like a doozy from this trailer. Jimmy Palmiotti and Justin Gray, both comic writers are penning the story and I can only hope it plays out as well as Mortal Kombat’s story did because that was the best storytelling I’ve ever seen in a fighting game. This fighter will feature a pretty great cast of characters just from the short list already announced in Superman, Flash, Wonder Woman, Harley Quinn and Solomon Grundy. The game is called Injustice: Gods Among Us and it really looks like the lines between hero and villain have been greatly blurred. Marvel’s had a pretty great run on fighting games for along time now, but I’m looking forward to see how far DC’s answer to those games can push the limits.

Choice quote from Ed Boon in an interview from GameSpot:

Injustice’ is our twist on the blockbuster over-the-top superhero game in a fighting game shell. We’re trying to add some major components to shake up the fighting game genre…One of the big kind of goals that we have its to is to have fighters that feel completely different from one another.

Injustice: Gods Among Us is coming in 2013 to PS3, XBOX 360 and Wii U.

Official Press release after the jump! In addition, I also embedded the interview with Ed Boon after the jump. Check it out.

Lost Classics: The Warrior King (a.k.a Street Fighter vs Mortal Kombat vs Wing Commander vs Savage Dragon))

Seeing as how the cast of Street Fighter will go head to head against the cast of Tekken in a month, this week’s lost classics takes a look at another crossover, similar to the GiJoe/Mortal Kombat “crossover” from 2 weeks ago. This time, not only does Street Fighter meet Mortal Kombat, but it also crosses over with Wing Commander and Savage Dragon. No, Savage Dragon didn’t take on Shang Tsung not did Ryu and Sub Zero take on the Kilarthi. Instead, this was a rather subtle crossover involving a mysterious character that showed up throughout TV adaptations all 4 franchises. What? You thought this was a video game? If only it could be.

The Powet Top 5 – Favorite Childhood Games

It’s no secret that many of us at Powet are and have always been life-long gamers. I think one of the most interesting things you can ask anyone who is a gamer is “what were your top 5 games growing up”? Depending on generation they grew up in or what system they played, the answers will generally be very different. I grew up with an NES and later graduated to the Genesis, I was also fortunate enough to have a local arcade, so here’s my top 5:
