GI Joe Resolute DVD gets a release date

This may not be new info, but it was new to me. GI Joe Resolute, the micro-series that aired on Cartoon Network as a build up to the hype of the live-action movie, will be making its DVD debut on November 3, 2009. If you are like me, and completely missed the airring, this is your chance to find out what happened.

Did any of you commenters watch it? Let us know what you thought below. Sharing is caring, people!

J is for Justice League International

Since the alphabet is the building block of our language, the Powet Alphabet is the building block of what makes us geeks.

The year is 1987. J.M. DeMatteis and Keith Giffen had just been given the reigns of DC Comics ultimate team of heroes, The Justice Leage. They’re paired with a hot new artist, Kevin Maguire, and set out to bring Justice League to a scope its never reached before, joining the UN and becoming an truly global force. But epic tales of the world’s finest aren’t why this book is so well known and loved, its revered for being funny.

Powet Alphabet: F is for Farscape

farscape-title

Since the alphabet is the building block of our language, the Powet Alphabet is the building block of what makes us geeks.

Before the Sci Fi Channel (or “SyFy”, as it’s now known) decided it hated science fiction fans, it was dedicated to bringing original science fiction content to the masses. The network didn’t always do this well (see Mission: Genesis), but in the late ’90s it would do this often. The first original series to catch my eye that wasn’t a total bomb was Farscape.

Farscape tells the story of IASA scientist and astronaut John Crichton, who is flung unwittingly across space via wormhole to try to survive in a much more advanced society that, due to his many other misfortunes, finds excuses to seek his complete and utter destruction. In true Douglas Adams fashion, we quickly find that Earth (“never heard of it”) is a truly backwater planet, leaving our hero stuck in the middle just trying to figure out what’s going on. Unlike other protagonists stuck in this situation, however, Crichton is able to bring his full knowledge of year 2000-era science fiction pop culture to bear in order to make sense of the things happening around him, to him, and without him.

For these and many other reasons that we are about to explore, Farscape wasn’t just another run-of-the-mill low budget hack writer’s fantasy. It was a hack writer’s fantasy with heart, drama, love, death, and re-death. And lots of sci-fi in-jokes. Come with us as we explore the Powet Alphabet’s “F”.

…what, you expecting Famicom?

When’s Your Judgment Day?

derekKyle Reese and the T-101 sent back to protect Edward Furlong had it at August 29th 1997. By the movie version of continuity Sarah Connor ultimately lived to see this day without an attack but as Kristina Lokenator and Arnie #3 showed up, Judgement Day would still take place on July 25th 2004. Then comes what’s had geeks real exited for the past 2 years, the event of Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, which ignores the 2004 Judgment Day, but also ignores the original 1997 date and once again pushes Judgment Day back to April 21st, 2011, which is only two years from today. Get that bomb shelter stocked with canned goods!

Terminator PosterIt’s a well thought out date, to be sure. With the events of the first episode taking place in September 2007, this gives the show more than enough time to come to a reasonable conclusion, be canceled, or again postpone Judgment Day by April 2011. This has already been suggested by a number of things. The April 2011 Skynet was Andy Good’s Turk. Andy’s out of the picture, and the Turk has taken a drastically different course. Derek is a stranger to Jesse who has lived a number of things differently than he has, and though she refuses to give him a date for when her Judgment Day is, it seems plainly obvious that it’s not the day Derek and Kyle remember as seen in the season 1 finale.

$20 Game of the Week: Dead Rising (Xbox 360)

Capcom is one of the most celebrated developers in the gaming industry. Throughout the years, they have released dozens of games. Many of these titles have become classics amongst gamers, achieving only cult status at the worst (Okami, Killer 7, Pheonix Wright), while at their best Capcom has created games that have spun off into mega-franchises (Mega Man, Street Fighter, Devil May Cry). One of their most prolific titles from the past decade casts players in the role of a hapless protagonist who has been thrust in the middle of a town infested with zombies. Using what little they have at their disposal, players must discover the truth behind the madness, assist any survivors, and live through the madness long enough to escape in one piece. The game I’m referring to of course, is 1998’s Playstation classic Resident Evil 2. The eagerly anticipated sequel pushed the series to new heights, becoming an instant best seller, and was regarded as one of the best games on the PS1. Capcom followed it up with more hits, including 2005’s Resident Evil 4, which changed the face of the series. Oh yeah, a while later Capcom released Dead Rising for the Xbox 360. While this sleeper hit carried the same basic premise of RE2, it was completely unrelated to Resident Evil. In fact, it gave gamers an experience that was unlike any previously seen survival horror video game.
