SGC 3 Made Reality via Kickstarter

In the past few years, video game conventions have managed to take great strides to become a heavy presence in the convention and event field. With PAX, and later PAX East, and eventually smaller but more tight-knit cons like MAGfest and Gencon, video games have been getting a lot of venue attention. Eventually, gaming media giant Screwattack decided to create their own event called SGC (Screwattack Gaming Convention) Started in 2009, it was in their own words – “We don’t think of SGC as a “convention” but moreso as a 72 hour gamer slumber party.”.

Unfortunately, after the second SGC in 2010, funding the event became too hard and the venue did not return for 2011 or 2012. However last month, Screwattack posed the idea of bring SGC back with the help of Kickstarter. If 100K was raised in the month timeframe, SGC would be able to rise again and offer another fun gaming event for all to enjoy. However, the campaign started slow and suffered from a slight lack of publicity and details as to how the money raised would be spent to make SGC come to life.

Surprisingly, however, it became Cindrella story of sorts, since within a 12-hour period, not only was the gaming fan community able to rally together and raise the remaining 30k in funds that was missing from the original goal, the goals was actually succeeded by an additional 20k.

Sadly, they couldn’t make the goal of 300k that would ensure Stuttering Craig would cosplay as Chun-Li the entire con. A heavy loss indeed.

SDCC 2012: Kaitlyn Leeb, the woman with three boobs from Total Recall

Kaitlyn Leeb, the woman with 3 boobs, with Jessica Biel, Melina from Total Recall at SDCC 2012

Kaitlyn Leeb, who will star in the upcoming Total Recall remake as the prostitute with three breasts made an in costume appearance at San Diego Comic-con and makes us wish we had 3 hands! Kaitlyn worked at the Total Recall booth and even posed with fellow Total Recall stars Jessica Biel and Bryan Cranston. We here at Powet are big fans of the original prostitute with three boobs from Total Recall and are very excited to see Kaitlyn in action in what will surely be the defining role of her career. She can be seen in the latest trailer which we posted a few weeks ago when we first talked about this very important character.

The question on everyone’s mind of course is which boobs are real and which are fake? Well, as Kaitlyn has mentioned on twitter, they’re actually all prosthetics.

Jessica Biel's twitter photo of Kaitlyn Leeb, the woman with 3 boobs, with Jessica Biel, Melina from Total Recall at SDCC 2012

Jessica Biel shared a photo of her and Kaitlyn Leeb saying “I found the most popular girl at #ComicCon! Two girls, five boobs. #TotalRecall”. Intentional 2 girls 1 cup reference? Maybe…

Total Recall hits theatres August 3rd. Keep reading for more photos of Kaitlyn Leeb at SDCC 2012.

SDCC 2012: Thomas Jane reprises role as The Punisher in fan film ‘Dirty Laundry’

Thomas Jane debuted a short fan film (NSFW) at SDCC 2012 called Dirty Laundry. Jane reprises his role as the Punisher in the short, which also features a guest appearance from Ron Perlman (Hellboy, Sons of Anarchy). Its pretty great to see actors who are genuine fans of the characters they portray. Jane played the part of Frank Castle in “The Punisher” released in 2004.

Quote from Jane:

I wanted to make a fan film for a character I’ve always loved and believed in – a love letter to Frank Castle & his fans. It was an incredible experience with everyone on the project throwing in their time just for the fun of it. It’s been a blast to be a part of from start to finish – we hope the friends of Frank enjoy watching it as much as we did making it… Not pushing anything. Just a fan film from friends of Frank.

He’s been talking about it on his twitter account, which you go see here.

SDCC 2012: Preview Night reveals MOTU Classics Granamyr, third Accessories Pack and more

News is already starting to trickle in from SDCC 2012. As booths start to be set up by various companies, people are snapping photos and posting them online. We’ve already gotten our very first look at Masters of the Universe Classics Granamyr, the largest figure to be released in 2012. We heard about the helmeted dragon first at last year’s convention, where the fan poll determined his coloration; Red as in the Filmation cartoon or Green as in the mini-comics. Clearly the Red vote has won out. He looks very well articulated, but it is not clear if the figure is rotocasted or not. He is going to be available in December and will be priced at approximately US$80.

[UPDATED – added video from Mattel with some of the Accessories from the Great Unrest Weapons Pack]
