Marvel.com just announced that the major villain for the highly anticipated sequel to last year’s Avengers film has been cast. The actor filling the shoe’s of extremely dangerous artificial intelligence is James Spader. The Boston native is known most recently for his work on The Office and Boston Legal, along with a role in the feature film, Lincoln. Sci-fans will remember his as Dr. Daniel Jackson from the 1994 film, Stargate.
James Spader will face off against Earth’s Mightiest Heroes as the villain in Marvel’s “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” the sequel to 2012’s record-breaking “Marvel’s The Avengers.” The Emmy Award-winning actor will play Ultron in the Avengers’ much anticipated return to the big screen from writer/director Joss Whedon. The film comes to theaters on May 1, 2015.
Spader earned three Emmy Awards for his role as Alan Shore on “Boston Legal” and “The Practice,” and will return to television this fall in NBC’s highly anticipated series “The Blacklist.” Most recently Spader was seen in the critically-acclaimed film “Lincoln” directed by Steven Spielberg and has previously worked with a long list of accomplished film directors including David Cronenberg, Curtis Hansen, Sidney Lumet, Mike Nichols, Tim Robbins, Robert Rodriguez, Steven Soderbergh, and Oliver Stone. David Mamet also directed Spader in the Broadway play Race.
“Avengers: Age of Ultron” will bring the Marvel Universe’s biggest heroes together again to face one of their biggest villains, with “Marvel’s The Avengers” director Joss Whedon returning to write and direct the sequel. “Marvel’s The Avengers” was released in 2012 and went on to earn $1.5 billion worldwide, making it the third-largest grossing movie of all time.

As part of YouTube’s Geek Week, the second Thor 2 trailer was just released.
With this trailer we confirm that this movie takes place after the events in New York that took place in the Avengers movie. We also see a bit more action, Natalie Portman as Jane Foster and, naturally, Loki.
The large stone warrior that we see facing Thor appears to be very similar to a Kronan stone warrior. Another Kronan warrior named Korg would become a major character as one of the gladiators in the Planet Hulk storyline.
Thor: The Dark World will be in theaters this November.
This past weekend I was lucky enough to participate in the open beta for Gazillion Entertainment’s free-to-play MMORPG Marvel Heroes. I got an invite for the closed beta a few weeks back, but didn’t have the chance to play for very long. I took more time with the Beta this past weekend, and was impressed by it. Since progress in the beta won’t carry over to the game’s launch, I avoided making too much progress in the game. At the same time, I got a good sampling of what the game had to offer. Marvel Heroes will feature over 2 dozen playable characters (including Rocket Raccon and Squirrel Girl), each with their own upgradable skill tree, Unreal Engine 3 powered graphics, randomly generated environments, and a script by Brian Michael Bendis (Avengers, Uncanny X-Men, Ultimate Spider-man). This is the first official image from the set of Iron Man 3. The movie is written and directed by Shane Black and will feature returning stars Robert Downey Jr, Gwenyth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, and Jon Favreau. Ben Kingsley, Guy Pearce, Rebecca Hall, Ashley Hamilton, and James Badge Dale join the cast.
This image of course reveals nothing about the actual movie, but does get us back in Stark’s garage with his collection of suits. If you’re looking for spoilers, the movie is supposedly heavily based on the Extremis story from the comic series, so you can read that. In the mean time, this looks cool and the movie opens May 3, 2013.
Today, we celebrate Memorial Day. A day where we commemorate the sacrifices our brave soldiers have made for this country. However, we, as nerds, must also commemorate something else: games that have been canceled and left on the cutting room floor. Bow your heads in silence before reading this article.
