SDCC 2012 is just a few short days away. The news should be starting to flow even sooner than that thanks to preview night and all the companies trying to steal each other’s thunder. Art Asylum has unveiled a new exclusive pack of Marvel Mini-mates on their blog.

From their blog:

Here they are finished and in final package for the first time, the Heroes and Adversaries 4 pack. This is a great pack that features some of the Marvel Universe’s most popular characters. Available through Toy Brigade/Xtreme Toys

I did a quick search for these two outlets and didn’t turn much up aside from that one is a toy retailer somewhere in California. Its not clear if this deadpool is the same as the one from Wave 28. Gotta say, that Venom looks terrible.

  

Diamond Select Toys has been doing a series of Crocodile Battle Beasts built around the mini-mate body as convention exclusives over the past year, each one sporting different accessories and color scheme. ToyNewsInternational snapped some pics (mirrored below) of what appears to be brand new Battle Beasts. It doesn’t look like these are built on the mini-mate body at all, in fact, I question their articulation. It looks like there is a rhino, octopus, monkey, iguana and a new crocodile.

There is no real indication of size or scale in the pictures, but there is placard stating they will be in stores in 2011 and retail for $14.99. Its not clear if that is individually or sold as a set. For their sake, I hope they are sold as a set because one figure with that amount of articulation for that price is a real tough sale for many collectors. And if I may say so the rhino and octopus are ADORABLE! I think I may have found a replacement line for the discontinued Robot Heroes I was collecting.

Action Figure Express will be offering up two exclusive box sets of Marvel Minimates soon. A silver age X-Men box set and an original X-Factor team box set. The Angel for both teams will actually be available in an upcoming wave of Marvel Minimates as both the regular figure and the chase for that wave. Marvel Minimates wave 34 was also announced and paying big respect to the 90’s X-Men in the form of Rogue, Beast, Jean Grey and Cyclops. Also in the wave is Jean as the Black Queen with Selene, the Black Queen as the variant. The troop builder figure (figure packaged with the chase figure and regular version of the chase) will be a Hellfire Guard.

Whats the most important revelation of Marvel Minimate Wave 34 and these box sets? A wave with no Wolverine or Spiderman!

Apparently DST did not actually put on display all of their upcoming minimates at the San Diego Comic Con. At Wizard World Chicago today, a new two-pack was revealed as an FYE/Suncoast exclusive. Scarlet Spider and Hobgoblin make their debut in the minimate format. Thanks to MinimateHQ for the news and check out more pictures here.

As with each year at the SDCC, news is flowing out about upcoming plans, events and merchandise. Due to the sheer volume of data, I’m just going to cover the toy news from the Preview night (yesterday) and Day 1 (today).

Star Trek: The Original Series has gotten the minimate treatment and now some pictures have finally surfaced. Play.com (UK) has all three sets plus the variant figure listed separately for sale. Availability begins 2007.07.25. The break down is as follows:

• Kirk and Spock
• Mr. Scott and Dr. McCoy
• Captain Pike and Orion Slave Girl
• Dress Uniform Dr. McCoy (chase)

I have mirrored the images below. Be sure to check out Spock sporting a remolded hand and naturally the Orion Slave Girl. I encourage more Star Trek figures of this in any Star Trek line since there was effectively an equivalent to the Orion Slave Girl in nearly every episode, much like the poor Red Shirts.
