SDCC 2007: Day 1 and 2 – Toy Round Up

As with each year at the SDCC, news is flowing out about upcoming plans, events and merchandise. Due to the sheer volume of data, I’m just going to cover the toy news from the Preview night (yesterday) and Day 1 (today).

I will be covering news for:

7th Kingdom
The Four Horsemen’s FANtastic Exclusives have been so successful that the 7th Kingdom property (chosen both this year and last year in the first round of voting) will be spinning out of the FANEx polls with its very first direct to retail set of figures. Queen Alluxandra of the Bloodmane Clan will be making her way to join Xetheus, the Minotaur and Ramathorr, the Elephant Swordsman. She actually lost out to Ramathorr in this year’s voting, but I’m pretty sure she came in second. I know I definitely voted for her. There is a severe lack of good female figures on the market today and if anyone can make one that does justice, its the 4 Horsemen. With the news of Alluxandra, we also got wind of the name for the human kingdom, Drakkignir. Variants will be made to supplement the queen in the form of “an entourage of women warriors armed with deadly battle skills, armored enhancements and dangerous weaponry”. These figures will be available at “specific retailers” sometime this winter.

Marvel Legends

Rather than posting a picture for every figure of each wave, I’m pretty much just going to post pictures of the Build-A-Figures and I will leave a link to follow to find the pictures of the rest of the figures.

Spider-man Movie Wave:
In what appears to be an answer to the collector uproar caused by Hasbro’s release of the Spiderman movie figures in the 5 inch scale, a 6 inch wave of Marvel Legend style figures will be released (separate from the main line of Marvel Legends, thankfully!) to retail.
The wave includes:

• Black Costume Spidey
• Mary Jane
• Green Goblin
• Doctor Octopus
• New Goblin
• Venom
• Sandman
• BAF: Sandman

Fantastic Four wave:

It seems that in addition to a supplemental Spider-man wave, there will also be a supplemental Fantastic Four wave. I have to say that this wave looks to be the best group of FF figures I have seen yet. Moleman is decidedly lacking, but the rest seem to be top notch all around.
