Diablo 3 – All Classes Confirmed!

If you were living under a rock this weekend and missed Blizzcon 2010, then you’d also have missed out on the announcement of the 5th and final player class for Diablo III: the Demon Hunter.

The Demon Hunter will be a duel-crossbow wielding character that looks like will be the substitute for the Rogue class from the first Diablo, and a cross between the Amazon and Assassin classes from the second game. Not much else has been discussed about the Demon Hunter’s gameplay or in-depth abilities skills other than a few including “molten arrow” and “granade”, but I guess Blizzard can’t drop everything at once; what with a release date still having not been mentioned yet.

Also revealed for Diablo III was a ranked PvP Arena Battle mode for the game, that pits teams of 3 against each other. Battle.net will matachmake players of similar level and rank to make battles more evenly challenged, and will reward character with achievements (much like Starcraft 2 has) and special titles.

Kotobukiya Mega Man (ROCKMAN) model kits; Roll and Protoman too!

Sometime around March of this year, news came out that Kotobukiya would be putting out a line of model kits in Japan based on characters from the Mega Man series. I hadn’t heard about it until recently when Roll was announced. The kits are molded in the appropriately colored plastic, so no paint should be required. Articulation looks to be excellent, in addition to many accessories including extra hands, faces, etc. While this wasn’t on my radar before, it certainly is now. Mega Man was the first kit in the line. Roll and Protoman are to follow.

It looks like Mega Man is currently on sale with pre-orders for Roll and Protoman expected to ship sometime around late December 2010 and late January 2011, respectively.

Reach adds Noble Map Pack in November

You knew it was coming. Halo 2 and Halo 3 successfully doubled the available maps for multiplayer, and the Halo prequel game Reach will add three new maps for Multiplayer (including Invasion) on November 30, 2010. It’ll set you back 800 MS points ($10) and also add 250 gamerscore points.

And to reveal these, Bungie has packed an excellent trailer. No just because it has some amazing gameplay footage on the new maps, but it also has a fantastic new variation of the classic Halo theme with all the action. Seriously, the music is great, and composer Marty O’Donnell knows it, so expect to see an MP3 available on Bungie.net soon.

Transformers Collector Club Exclusive G2 Ramjet revealed

The Transformers Collectors Club have unveiled the first of the two club exclusive figures for 2011. That figure is Generation 2 Ramjet. He, along with the other, as yet unrevealed, club exclusive figure, will be available for purchase only to club members. We recently posted about the reveal of the 2011 Club Membership figure, Sideburn. Anyone who renews their membership before March 16, 2011 will receive one free Sideburn figure. After that you will have the opportunity to buy G2 Ramjet and the other exclusive figure.

As I recall, the other unnamed figure was mentioned at Botcon to be a redeco of Animated Blur as Transtech Cheetor. This is merely what they were planning and has not been officially announced yet.

Maximum Letdown: Hydlide (NES)

Before Final Fantasy VII, the role playing game genre just wasn’t that popular. Playing a turd like this, I can see why, as this must have been what games like Dragon Warrior and Zelda must have looked like to most gamers. Believe it or not, this was actually a very popular RPG for Japanese computer systems. It was regarded as one of the first console RPGs. However, it wasn’t bought to America until a few years later, and it’s ‘innovations’ had already been done by other games, most notably the awesome Legend of Zelda. By it’s release, not only were the graphics sub-par, the story was virtually nonexistent and the gameplay was a serious and boring pain in the ass. With stupid looking enemies, a nonsensical battle system, and boring gameplay, this early NES game would turn anyone off to the genre. For years to come, this game’s pitfalls caused mainstream gamers to sleep on quality titles such as Lufia, 7th Saga, and Final Fantasy 2 – 6, or at least that’s what I think happened. After all, who’d want to play this crap when they could be playing Double Dragon or Castlevania?

$20 Game of the Week: Call of Duty – Modern Warfare (Xbox 360, PS3, PC)

Infinity Ward’s Call of Duty franchise had successfully usurped Medal of Honor as the premier WWII FPS franchise. Unfortunately, it also took MOH’s place as the poster child for genre burnout. Thankfully, developer Infinity Ward realized this fact, and took the next COD game into a whole new era, or more specifically, the modern world. While players were initially worried that Modern Warfare will be exploitative of the War on Terror, they were happy to learn that the game took a different route. Instead of basing it on the current conflicts in the Middle East, Modern Warfare thrust players into an epic conflict that takes its cue from action movies as opposed to the evening news.
