Famicom Dojo: SegaScope 3-D

The SegaScope-3D came out at the same time as Nintendo’s Famicom 3D System, but Sega saw fit to release their peripheral in the US as well.

Also in stark contrast to Nintendo, Sega developed all of its own 3D games. Check them out in Part 2 of our Retro 3D Special!

$20 Game of the Week; Spore (PC, MAC)

Spore was perhaps Will Wright and Maxis’ most ambitious game to date. Although it wasn’t perfect, it’s level of customization is rivaled only by Maxis’ other big franchise, The Sims. While it may have caught some heat with the whole creationism vs evolution debates, a key part of its gameplay is how things evolve over time. Like Enix’s EVO from nearly 2 decades prior, Spore’s big hook is that it makes a controversial subject such as evolution a fun part of the gameplay.

A dozen years after Dreamcast’s launch, it is still one of the most revered and loved systems. Cult status doesn’t count for the NES or the Playstation, everyone had one of those, but if you got a Dreamcast in it’s all too brief 19 month life span, you should listen to this episode.

Famicom Dojo Podcast: A World Without Mega Man

Retro games may be beloved (if not exceedingly difficult), but do their descendants still have a place in the modern gaming world? When the original creator of a franchise moves on, is it time for the publisher to move on to something else? What about the fans? Phil Bond joins Sean and Vinnk this week as we discuss the cancellation of Mega Man Legends 3, and what nearly 50,000 people are trying to do about it.

DC Universe Club Infinite Earths moving forward

This was not terribly surprising and much of the speculation I saw on Twitter turned out to pretty much nail the announcement. The basic run down is Mattel did not receive the number of subscriptions they wanted to reach for the DC Universe Club Infinite Earths action figure subscription. When subscription ordering closed, Mattel stated they needed a couple weeks to figure out where to go from there.

Mattel announced the result of those internal discussions on Facebook today. The subscription will move forward. If you decide to purchase any figures on the day of the sale, those figures will be more expensive than you would have paid with the subscription. In addition, the subscription will open back up temporarily for people to order. More details on that are forthcoming. Finally, the fan choice subscription figure was also announced. That figure will be Metron in his Mobius Chair.

Check out the full announcement after the break.

Transformers Collectors’ Club 2012 Membership Exclusive Runamuck revealed

The Tranformers Collectors Club has revealed their exclusive membership figure for 2012 and it is none other than Runamuck. Their website revealed the robot and alt modes for the figure, while the head turnaround image was posted to their twitter account. The club’s facebook page had the reveal for the actual head sample. Runamuck’s partner, Runabout, will most likely be one of the two club exclusive figures for 2012 like this year’s Animated Cheetor and G2 Ramjet.

I must say the club has guaranteed a membership renewal from me. This figure looks fantastic. I inquired further on Twitter and confirmed that the head turnaround was done by Dan Khanna. If you want this figure you will need to renew your club membership by March 16th 2012. Any renewals after that time will guarantee you the figure for 2013.

Gears Of War 3 “Dust To Dust” trailer

Less than 3 weeks away from release, Epic Games has released a final trailer for the final game in the Gears Of War trilogy.

Just as they did with the “Mad World” and “Last Day” trailers, we have some very somber and calming music over a chaotic back drop. The song here is “Into Dust” by Mazzy Star.

Gearheads will finally get to play out Delta Squad’s last mission on September 20. If for some reason you did not play the previous games, you have wasted the last 5 years of you life. But its not too late, since Epic has released a “triple pack” that includes the first two games and all the expansion packs and maps for $30.
