Xenoblade Chronicles Arrives on Wii U Virtual Console

ku-bigpic
In what is no doubt good news for RPG fans who have yet to play Monolith Soft’s masterpiece, the Wii version of Xenoblade Chronicles is now available as a Wii U virtual console title for only $19.99. If you had trouble locating a physical copy of the game, and weren’t sold on the New 3DS version, now you can buy a digital version and play it with the Wii U gamepad. Xenoblade Chronicles was designed by Tetsuya Takahashi, and is a spiritual successor to Square’s Xenogears and Namco Bandai Xenosaga while being a spiritual predecessor to Xenoblade Chronicles X, which was released in the U.S this past December. The game tells the story of a world created on the remains of two warring giants, and a mysterious blade known as the Monado. Xenoblade earned praises for it’s unique storyline and battle system, and its main character, Shulk, became a playable character in the latest Smash Bros game while female character Fiora is a playable character in the recently released Project X-Zone 2. The original Wii release had a limited printing run, so newer copies of the game are increasingly rare and have costs consumers as much as $100. Fortunately, now that a digital version is available, everyone should be able to experience this classic.Mountains Photo

TGS: Fire Emblem and Xenoblade Characters join Project X Zone 2

Project X Zone 2: Brave New World, the mega crossover featuring characters from Capcom, Namco Bandai, and Sega was featured this past week at the Tokyo Game Show, and several new characters were revealed. Chrom and Lucina from Fire Emblem Awakening join the cast, which now means that we could be seeing characters who aren’t originally from a Capcom, Sega, or Namco game. Also, Fiora from Xenoblade Chronicles joins Kos-Mos to form a team. These 4 characters will join characters such as Pheonix Wright, Leon Kennedy, and Jill Valentine as just a few of the many playable characters in Project X Zone 2. There’s another new character coming to Project X Zone 2 as well. Find out who it is after the jump.

$20 Game of the Week: Infinity Blade (IOS)

iblade

Releasing in late 2010, Infinity Blade was a very significant game for the mobile market, especially the iPad. It was the first mobile game that made use of the Unreal Engine 3. With a serious graphical powerhouse engine behind it, tablet systems would be on their way to being taken seriously as gaming devices. The game itself isn’t too shabby either. It provides an experience that is best suited towards mobile devices, although it tends to get a bit repetitious.

$20 Game of the Week: Mount and Blade – Warband (PC)

The Mount and Blade series is a different kind of medieval RPG. Note that I said medieval as opposed to fantasy, because unlike games like Skryim and Dragon Age, there aren’t any dragons, wizards, magic, or demons. It’s just you, your army, and thousands of miles of a land torn in strife. Turkish developer TaleWords has developed a true sandbox style game, as you are free to approach it anyway you wish without the experience being structured by a plot. You can gather an army, purchase land for business development, participate in large-scale combat, and even marry into royalty. Warband is the standalone expansion to the original Mount and Blade, meaning that you don’t have to own the original in order to enjoy everything Warband has to offer. Warband improves on the original game with numerous additions, the most significant of which being multiplayer.

NYCC 2011: Lost’s Harold Perrineau is the voice of Blade

Harold Perrineau as Blade the Vampire Slayer

Hey did you know there’s a Blade anime? Well there is, and Marvel has announced that the voice of Blade for the dub will be none other than Harold Perrineau, Michael from Lost. Will Harold be able to live up to the legacy left by Wesley Snipes, Sticky Fingaz and a bunch of people you’ve never heard of who voiced him in video games? With a great movie and TV show predating it, this anime has some tall shoes to fill.

The Blade anime has already started airing in Japan and will be playing on G4TV in January 2012 along with many other Marvel anime shows. We previously gave our thoughts on a number of these shows on the Powetcast back in May.

Keep reading to watch some footage from the Blade anime. [Read the rest of this entry…]

Ridley Scott to make a new Blade Runner movie

New Blade Runner movie featuring Edward James Olmos and Harrison Ford riding Unicorns

Dealine.com reports that Ridley Scott will be working on a new Blade Runner movie after he’s done with his new Alien movie. Not much is know about the film at this point but the staff here at Powet can pretty much guarantee that the film will include Edward James Olmos as Gaff and Harrison Ford as Rick Deckard riding on some pretty bad ass looking Unicorns, as can be seen from the on set photo shown above.

Will this be a remake, sequel, reimagining? Are these Unicorns robots or actual real Unicorns? Will the film be reedited a dozen times and released in a box set with 17 versions? Will it follow the novel? If so who will play the toad and the sheep? Will it include clips from the Shining? Will the director and star agree on whether or not the main character is a replicant? Only time will tell! Stay tuned to Powet for more info on this movie, assuming of course this isn’t the last we hear about it…

Lost Classics: Power Blade 2 (NES)

What if Taito had made a Mega Man game, but instead of a little blue robot, you played as a Arnold Schwarzenegger look-alike*, and instead of an upgradable arm cannon, you used an upgradable boomerang to fight enemies? Well the end result would resemble Taito’s NES side-scrolling platformer, Power Blade 2. A sequel to 1991’s Power Blade, PB 2 once again casts players as Nova, a secret government agent in the year 2200. The Delta Corporation has created a new cyborg warrior and wants to sell it to the United States. The president refuses, and the Delta corporation is threatening to sell the robot to an enemy power. This doesn’t sit too well with the Department of Defense, so they send Nova on a secret mission to destroy Delta. It’s not going to be easy, as scores of enemy robots will stand in his way. However, Nova has his trusty boomerang at his side, ready to take on anything.

Witchblade teaser poster revealed, finds clothing unnecessary

Witchblade teaser movie poster

A Witchblade movie was recently announced and we now have a teaser poster. I think it pretty much speaks for itself, but for those that want more, here is a snippet from FirstShowing.Net:

The comic followed Sara Pezzini, a NYPD detective who comes into possession of the Witchblade, a supernatural, sentient artifact with immense destructive and protective powers. The artifact is actually an ornate jewel-encrusted gauntlet that gives extraordinary powers to the wearer, a specially chosen female from each generation. We can expect that the film will follow a story based on that mythology with a central female character coming in possession of the gauntlet. IMDb lists Michael Rymer, of “Battlestar Galactica”, as the director, although his involvement is entirely unconfirmed at the moment. The film is expected to go into production this September for a 2009 release.
