Toy Fair 2017: Tranformers Titans Return Trypticon

The centerpiece of Hasbro’s Titans Return display at this year’s Toy Fair was the newly revealed Titans Return Trypticon.
Trypticon won a fan poll last year for the next titan class Transformers figure against the likes of Scopronok and Omega Supreme. This was the first time the full prototype has been on display and lots of news surrounding it has come out.

  • Full Tilt, the smaller Transformer that came with the original Trypticon, is included.
  • Full Tilt has a Titan Master. The Titan Master’s name is Necro.
  • Necro appears to be based on Wipe Out, an obscure character that appeared with Trypticon at one point.
  • No Electronics (the choice was to include Full Tilt instead of electronics).
  • Base mode can connect to the other bases in the line.
  • Opening the mouth reveals a ‘throat’ which will funnel a Titan Master down to Trypticon’s chest compartment.

Unicron.com got a great video interview with Hasbro designer, John Warden.

Here are the official renders of the figure from Hasbro:

$20 Game of the Week: Guardians of the Galaxy – The Universal Weapon (iOS, Android)/X-men: Days of Future Past (iOS, Kindle)

gotg

Well, everyone’s favorite gun-toting raccoon and living tree are among Marvel’s newest (and most obscure) movie stars as of this weekend in Guardians of the Galaxy, and earlier this summer, everyone’s favorite mutants returned to the silver screen in X-men Days of Future Past, and what good would any movie be without the prerequisite tie-in games? Of course unlike recent movie tie in games, such as the Gameloft-Cashgrab mobile games based on Captain America 2 and Spider-Man 2, these games have no in-app purchases (it’s a rather biting commentary on mobile gaming when we’re praising games for NOT having any IAP, but I digress). The games themselves aren’t bad either.

Famicom Dojo Podcast: Crossovers and Cameos

Famicom Dojo Podcast 093: Crossovers and Cameos

Recent installments of the Super Smash Bros. series have included characters from third party companies as fighters joining the Nintendo menagerie. Game developers often hide references to their other titles in some of their games, either by obscure references or through sharing characters — sometimes where they don’t really belong. Gamers seem to enjoy these cross-overs and in=jokes… but why? Vinnk and Sean share their favorite cameos in well-known games as well as more obscure titles. Future Retro looks more at the recent past, and Pile of Shame spans a couple of generations.

Toy Fair 2013: Possible MattyCollector reveals

Matty_Mantenna1

I was surfing facebook earlier this evening when I saw a photo of a MOTU Classics Mantenna shared on the Masters of the Universe Classics facebook group and I did a double take. It sure looked like an official photo and legitimate photograph, but who can tell these days. We live in a world of Photoshop mockups. I put all the images from there into a gallery for everyone to see after the jump.

Can anyone verify if these are real?

The excellent Ni No Kuni, one of many awesome titles that has been or will be released this year.

If you’re reading this, then you already know that the world didn’t end back in December (f course if you were smart, you knew it wasn’t gonna end anyway). That’s a very good thing. Not only do you get to stay alive a lot longer, but there are some very awesome things coming this year. Several new gadgets and gizmos are hitting the block for gamers (including the PS4 and Xbox 720 is rumors hold true), several awesome movies are hitting theaters, and most importantly, several new games are coming out within these next twelve months. “Beastly, I gotta have more cowbell!”

Care Bears Welcome to Care-a-Lot - Beastly banging on a cowbell

The new Care Bears show “Welcome to Care-a-Lot” has been airing on The Hub since the begining of the month. Though the show does not seem to have attracted an adult audience like the Hub’s other show My Little Pony has, it’s nice to see that they’re still making an effort to include completely obscure references that would be completely lost on the target demographic. In last week’s episode “Show of Shyness” the human of the week Phoebe is performing in a concert with the “shady” Beastly on drums. Harmony encourages him by saying “Beastly, I gotta have more cowbell!”. This would be reference to the iconic Saturday night live skit in which Christopher Walken encourages Blue Öyster Cult to include “More cowbell” in “Don’t Fear The Reaper”. Check out a short clip of the scene:

The full episode is currently on the Hub’s web site, though it won’t remain online for long as it will likely be replaced with the latest episode later this week. The quote in question occurs in the 20th minute of the episode.
