Green Lantern: The Animated Series Begins Nov 11, See First Scene Here

Warner Bros Animation has a very strong history with DC comics, releasing Batman: The Animated series, Superman: The Animated Series, Justice League Unlimited, Teen Titans, and currently Young Justice. We’ve known for some time that Hal Jordan, the Green Lantern, would be the subject of their next series and now we have a clip and a premiere date: November 11, 2011.

Something that sets this apart from any other DC project is its being done with CG rather than a more traditional animated look. It will not be set in continuity with any existing property, except with a loose backstory based on the movie starring Ryan Reynolds.

Anna Faris parodies Sailor Moon on Saturday Night Live

Anna Faris parodies Sailor Moon on Saturday night live

In this past weekend’s episode of Saturday Night Live a skit featured host Anna Faris as a character that looks quite familiar to Sailor Moon fans. The clip has Faris playing a Japanese anime fan and despite the similarities to Sailor Moon she mentions she is dressed as her own fan made character “Cherry Cherry Rock and Roll”.

Americans can watch the clip on Hulu:

The rest of the world can keep reading for the YouTube version which might not be around for long…

Is a new Star Trek series in the works?

Make it so Star Trek Captain Justin Bieber

A new Star Trek series featuring a younger more vibrant cast is in the works. How young? How vibrant? Well Justin Bieber has not officially accepted the role but I imagine based on no evidence at all that he will certainly be the Captain.

This news is kind of old, and it didn’t come to my attention earlier because it’s most certainly meaningless. At a Star Trek convention in Las Vegas in August Trek Web did an interview with David Foster about a new series he’s working on. And when I say working on, I mean he would like to make a show, but has no money and has not pitched it to CBS yet. Still, some people are reporting this as being “in development” so I’m passing the info along.

NYCC 2011: Lost’s Harold Perrineau is the voice of Blade

Harold Perrineau as Blade the Vampire Slayer

Hey did you know there’s a Blade anime? Well there is, and Marvel has announced that the voice of Blade for the dub will be none other than Harold Perrineau, Michael from Lost. Will Harold be able to live up to the legacy left by Wesley Snipes, Sticky Fingaz and a bunch of people you’ve never heard of who voiced him in video games? With a great movie and TV show predating it, this anime has some tall shoes to fill.

The Blade anime has already started airing in Japan and will be playing on G4TV in January 2012 along with many other Marvel anime shows. We previously gave our thoughts on a number of these shows on the Powetcast back in May.

Keep reading to watch some footage from the Blade anime. [Read the rest of this entry…]

The Bots Master sticker book video

Here’s a video showcasing a sticker book about the cartoon The Bots Master that went up on YouTube yesterday:

This sticker book dates back to 1994, which would have been when the show was still on the air. It’s in French and would have been sold in France back in the day. The book appears to be broken up into various episodes, with each episode having 3 pages of stickers dedicated to it. With a total of 40 episodes in the series, this book only covers a few.

Power Rangers recreate Beatles’ Abbey Road album cover

Here’s a bit of odd news. The latest iteration of the Power Rangers have recreated the cover to the Beatles’ Abbey Road album. This happened to coincide with a new Scorcese documentary on George Harrison, John Lennon’s 71st Birthday and Paul McCartney getting married for the third time. I’m not sure if this was done as a joke or as a more official publicity stunt, but its amusing either way.

Star Trek: The Next Generation Coming to Blu Ray in 2012

Star Trek: The Next Generation has been running on TV no stop for the better part of nearly 3 decades. Always presented in its original 4:3 format and in standard definition. The series was shot on film, but episode masters were on video tape, and special effects were all done on video tape.

Paramount, at great expense no doubt, are digging in the archives, getting all the of the original film negative and recutting the entire series and remastering to HD. They’ll have to edit every shot just like it was originally presented, and sync up every music cue, and re do every digital effect like phaser fire and transporters. A similar job was done to the original series, but like many fans of my generation, Jean Luc Picard is my captain and I’m eager to re-watch this seminal series.

The release will start in January with a sample disc containing “Encounter At Farpoint” as well as “Sins Of The Father” and “The Inner Light”. The full first season will follow later in 2012, with subsequent seasons coming in the years ahead.

“Tuff Tank” – Venture Bros & Cowboy Bebop Mashup

Our recent podcast about Cartoon Network’s “Adult Swim” made me think that my favorite 2 shows also have really incredible music. So I just tried reversing them. Venture Bros now has the “Tank!” theme from Bebop, edited slightly to it VB’s shorter intro. Cowboy Bebop has a chunk of the extended Venture Bros ending theme “Tuff” taken from the VB soundtrack released with the Season 3 Bluray.
