Lost Classics: Super Mario Land (Game Boy)

Super Mario is the long forgotten entry in the Super Mario franchise, yet at the same time, it’s one of the most enjoyable. This Game Boy launch title was the first portable Mario game since the Game & Watch era, and it was developed by Gunpei Yokoi (rather than creator Shigeru Miyamoto), who was basically the brains behind Nintendo’s entire direction ever since they decided to make video games. While it contained the same platforming action from the NES, although it added in a few twists of its own. As the mustachoed plumber, you’re out to save Princess Daisy (not Peach/Toadstool), and the rest of Sarasland (not the Mushroom Kingdon) from the evil Tatanga (not Bowser). Like in SMB, you collect mushrooms to grow bigger, and flowers to shoot fire. However, in some levels, you pilot a vehicle. Also, the levels have more variation in thier backgrounds. One level features an Egyptian motif. While the world itself may have forgotten about SML, it’s sequel is best known for introducing Wario to the franchise. SML is slated to be one of the first games to be released on the 3Ds download service, so I advise you to check it out.

Powetcast: DC Reboot Stages Of Grief

Zac, Genius, Sean, and Logan strive to make sense of their emotions in the face of the entire DC universe being wiped clean this fall. We discuss rights, digital distribution, erasing characters, the silver age roll-back, and the modern age foul ups.
We also accept that it might not be Jim Lee’s fault, even if Superman has a collar and fishnet pants now.

DC Comics to Relaunch Comics and Have Day-and-Date Digital Distribution

Yesterday DC Comics announced that this September they will be relaunching all their super hero comics and renumbering them starting with #1 issues. In an interview with USA Today they revealed that there will be a total of 51 first issues released in a five week period.

The details aren’t fully revealed at this point, but this relaunch appears to be a reboot of the entire DC universe and will have new costumes and stories that will be more accessible to new fans.

The relaunch will start on August 31st, and DC will be release just two books that day: The final Flashpoint issue and the first issue of a new Justice League series by Geoff Johns and Jim Lee.

Another huge part of this announcement is that all of these 51 new series will be available digitally on the same day they are released in print, which makes them the first of any major comic pulbisher to do so.

First image of US Edition Masterpiece Rodimus revealed

OZFormers got the scoop with the first image of the more international release of Masterpiece Rodimus. Certain rumors seem to be confirmed in that he will not come with his trailer, but will be accompanied by a new targetmaster partner homaging Firebolt, named Offshoot. He is a deeper red and seems to have fewer paint applications. It is not apparent if this version will be based on the forthcoming second release with minor engineering improvements or the original release.

The color difference and targetmaster/trailer differences seem to be enough for me to get both the American and Japanese editions. US Edition can be Hot Rod, while the Japanese one can stand in as Rodimus Prime.

What do you all think about the differences? Let us know in the comments!

Plants Vs Zombies Launches On Android

PopCap games has finally brought their very popular backyard defense game Plants Vs Zombies to Android devices! Its available via the Amazon Appstore exclusively, so you won’t find it on Android Market. Its well worth downloading the Amazon Appstore right now because PvZ is free today only. Yes, May 31, 2011. If it is any other day, you’ll pay $2.99. Be aware the size of the game means you have to download over wifi, but you can still buy the game now and download later if you’re mobile. You can even queue it from the website if you don’t have your phone or tab handy right now.

$2.99 is still a good price for a great game (and a bargain compared to what you pay on other platforms), but its worth downloading Plants Vs Zombies now while its still free.

Ladies, Does Your Man Smell Like Luke Cage?

Isaiah Mustafa, the man who took the nation by storm in a series of very clever Old Spice commercials, has been very vocal about wanting Marvel comics to consider him as Luke Cage in a future movie.

Now taking matters into his own hands, Mustafa appears to have financed the production of a trailer for this non-existant film. Marvel has over the last several years put Luke Cage as a lower priority as it established its Avengers series, but has stated that smaller films about Dr Strange and other less mainstream characters are possible next. Luke Cage would fit in that perfectly, and would be an excellent addition to a future Avengers movie for a cameo.

Theres no doubt that if internet buzz takes over, Marvel will at least consider Mustafa for the role. So does this trailer convince you as it should convince Marvel?

Of course Marvel has already cast Mustafa as Luke Cage once… [Read the rest of this entry…]
