E3 – EA and UbiSoft

e3

Yesterday Afternoon, EA and UbiSoft both held conferences on their upcoming plans.. Most of what the two companies showed was already known before E3, they simply went more into depth with what they had. Of course, like Sony and Microsoft, there were a few surprises as well. We meant to have this sooner, but we got hit with some technical difficulties. We’ll have Nintendo and Square-Enix up here early tomorrow. For now, click below and see what EA and Ubi Soft have in store for gamers.

E3: Sony & Shenmue III Kickstarter

ryo

Last night, Sony held its big press conference. Sony, along with various third party developers, had quite a few surprises this year. Sony showed off a lot of console exclusives, or at least timed exclusives, ending with gameplay footage from Uncharted 4. So what’s with the picture of Ryo Hazuki? During the conference, Yu Suzuki announced his desire to create Shenmue 3 on PC and PS4. However, if fans wanted it, they’d have to help fund it by way of a Kickstarter that went up during the show. The Kickstarter reached $1 million within 9 hours and as of this morning, is close to 2.5 Million. It’s safe to say, fans will finally be seeing the last installment to the Shenmue Trilogy. There were more amazing things that came out of the press conference as well. While I’m not gonna go over everything, below are the bigger footnotes.

Pre E3 Speculation: Transformers Brawler, Plus Ryu and Roy coming to Smash Brothers?

e3

As you know, next week is E3, the wonderful time of the year where we get hyped up for games that we won’t see for at least another 4 months. We can only guess what surprises that Microsoft, Nintendo, Sony, along with several major publishers and developers will have in store for gamers this year. However, today sees a couple of huge potential leaks: One, being a cel-shaded Transformers brawler and the other being new DLC for Smash Brothers. Unless and until they are confirmed at E3, these two rumors should only be taken as little more than speculation, even if we have screenshots.

Famicom Dojo Podcast: Nintendo Wins E3

Famicom Dojo Podcast 098: Nintendo Wins E3

It’s amazing how things looked a year ago, with Nintendo all but left for dead by the gaming press. Now, with a much-needed lift by Mario Kart 8 and a killer showing at E3, Nintendo looks like it might earn the title of number one console (in Japan) — and not just because the PS4 is selling so poorly there. And perhaps do better in America too. Whatever works. Sean and Vinnk skip Future Retro and Pile of Shame to dedicate the entire episode to E3 reactions. And maybe pepper that stuff throughout the show anyway. You better believe we won’t be letting Ubisoft off lightly, either.

Famicom Dojo Podcast: To E3 or Not to E3 (2013)

Famicom Dojo Pocast 77: To E3 or Not to E3 (2013)

E3 is over, but did anything of substance happen aside from Sony stabbing Microsoft in the side and twisting the knife? Everything of substance occurred before or after E3, including Microsoft’s “Xbox 180” announcement about its disc DRM and “always on” connectivity. In this digital world, has E3 outlived its usefulness as a press-only event? Sean and Vinnk unpack the reasons why Microsoft reversed course, and struggle with which next-gen console to get to compliment the Wii U. And Sean finally realizes that maybe he shouldn’t have passed over the PS3 last generation.

Major Nelson made a blog post revealing that May 21, 2013 will herald the reveal of the third generation XBox.

Here is the announcement of the announcement:

On Tuesday May 21st, we’ll mark the beginning of a new generation of games, TV and entertainment. On that day, we’ll be holding a special press event on the Xbox campus and we invite you to join us via the live global stream that will be available on Xbox LIVE and Xbox.com. If you are in the US or Canada, you can also watch the broadcast on Spike TV.

On that day, we’ll share our vision for Xbox, and give you a real taste of the future. Then, 19-days later at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) in Los Angeles, we’ll continue the conversation and showcase our full lineup of blockbuster games.

We are thrilled to pull back the curtain and reveal what we’ve been working on.

Rumors have been flying around that the next generation console will be called XBox Infinity due to some possible leaked logo images. We will know for sure on May 21st!

Famicom Dojo Podcast: E3 2012

Did Nintendo try to steal the show, only to stumble? Is the Wii U just an expansion for the Wii, with only enough extra horsepower to run the GamePad screen? Did Sony and Microsoft play it too close to the vest, or can we expect something greater from them in 2013? Sean and Vinnk talk about the ups and downs (sometimes it feels like mostly downs) of E3, Vinnk’s game of the show Project P-100, and all of the reasons we tell ourselves that E3 wasn’t that great, even thought we just really wanted to be there in person.

Famicom Dojo Podcast: System Fragmentation

The Wii U Pro Controller presents two problems: 1) It’s just like the Wii Classic or Wii Classic Pro Controllers: the adoption rate is poor, nothing that works on it NEEDS to work on it, and we totally forget about it. 2) It actually takes off, and threatens one of the core value propositions of the Wii U. Only Nintendo makes games for it, and 3rd parties just ignore it after a while. Vinnk and Sean discuss the problem of hardware fragmentation in video game systems, and trot out some well-worn examples as well as more recent ones: the Sega Genesis 32x, Android’s newest Ice Cream Sandwich operating system, and more!
