Did we really need another Sega Genesis compilation, especially when most of these games are available on Virtual Console/Xbox Live Arcade/Playstation Network Store? When it’s this good, ABSOLUTELY. While the lineup is similar to 2006’s Sega Genesis Collection, there are several games from that disc that were left off and there are many games here that weren’t on the previous compilation. With well over 40 games, the disc spans the entire history of the Sega Genesis and it includes the classics (Sonic, Streets of Rage, Shinobi), some lesser known hits (Beyond Oasis, Ristar, Comix Zone), and the occasional clunker (Sonic 3D Blast, Flicky, Bonanza Bros). There is a huge amount of hidden features, including interviews and developers, art and even Arcade and Sega Master System games. There are numerous options for tweaking the graphics, and you can arrange the games alphabetically. While it’s cool to download hits, this disc is still the best value for your dollar. Sega if you’re reading this, now that we got plenty of Genesis games, please give us a Sega Saturn compilation. I’ve got the burning desire to play some Panzer Dragoon.
Dane Boe of Gagfilms.com knows how to mash. Sure theres a thousand Mugen videos on Youtube, and there’s no shortage of flash junk on Newgrounds either. But these simple and to the point videos are ridiculous fun and have better production values than you might expect.

Following suit with Marvel, DC is bought out (again) by Warner Bros. Following suit with Siegel/Shuster (against DC), Jack Kirby’s heirs decide to sue Marvel. Kanye West makes a jackass out of himself. Sonic Team wants to make a GOOD Sonic game for a change. And Famicom Dojo Season 2 news! What’s going on in the world??

Powet Presents something that’s not very standard fare for the site (or me, for that matter), but is close enough to geek topics near and dear to our hearts.
You all got a peak over a week ago of the Sonic Unleashed video leaked onto the internet. After a stir up on SEGA’s part over the video and various screenshot images being posted on numerous blogs, the bigwigs decided to cut the attempted cover-up charade and just come clean by formally announcing that the game is indeed real and upcoming.
Because we didn’t know that already.
Making use of the aptly titled “Hedgehog Engine” to deliver a supposed combination of oldschool gameplay with 3D graphics, Sonic Unleashed is being claimed as the new way to infuse the series with an injection of it’s past glory. (a over-used claim already tried with Sonic Next-Gen and Sonic and the Secret Rings)
“Sonic Unleashed will introduce a new, unexpected storyline along with innovative gameplay that compliments traditional skills and features, allowing players to experiment and engage in new ways.” says Vice President of Marketing at SEGA of America, Sean Ratcliffe.
If they’ve decided to dub the already notorious news about Sonic changing into a were-hedgehog as “new and unexpected”, then I guess they hit the nail on the head, though probably not in the positive way they meant. Regardless, the game is slated for a release during the holidays for Xbox 360, PS3, PS2, and Wii.

Sega is guilty of not caring after its favorite son, Sonic. In fact the best game with Sonic in it in the last 5 years is probably Super Smash Bros Brawl, made by Nintendo.
The above video is not officially released by Sega, but accompanies the alleged Sonic Unleashed screenshots. It looks official enough to me, probably just waiting to be revealed at a press conference or by a magazine/site exclusive.
Whatever Sonic Unleashed is, it needs to be good. The GameBoy Advance and DS Sonic games have done well rehashing classic Genesis gameplay, but do little to advance the franchise. Sonic Unleashed is supposedly for Xbox 360 and PS3 and could be somewhat similar to last year’s Wii Sonic game (which wasn’t met with great reception, but wasn’t really bad either)

Sonic The Hedgehog has been the most wanted character not just for Super Smash Bros Brawl, but even going back to Super Smash Bros Melee. The second Sega became a 3rd party publisher for Nintendo, people knew it was possible. And soon Sega is publishing Sonic and Mario at the Olympics, which is fine for a fair competition. But the one wanted is to see Sonic fight Nintendo classic characters hand to hand, thus bringing to life the console wars from generations ago.
On the not-so-bright side, the Japanese date for the game has been revealed as January 24, with the US release now stating “TBD” instead the previously announced December 3rd. A delay would be uncomfortably, but not unexpected. Nintendo has a consistent track record of piling on delays to get the game RIGHT. At least we’ll have The Olympics this year.
A list of events for play in the upcoming Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Gamesfor the Wii has been revealed. The DS version is reportedly delayed until the beginning of next year.
