Famicom Dojo Podcast: Wii U Be Mine

For as long as the Wii has been around, fans and critics alike maligned it for not supporting the HD or hardcore gaming crowd. There’s no way it can be a success! Now that the Wii U is out, supporting even HDMI out of the box (a first for consoles), and now it has a hard time supporting older televisions and standard definition. Nintendo is turning its back on classic gaming!

Vinnk and Sean explore why the launch of the Wii U wasn’t quite the same as that of its predecessor (also the only console launch of any kind since the Wii), wonder how it will stack up against the eventual and unannounced competition as it ages, and discuss the importance of getting a cake from the Japanese police department. Oh, and the wisdom of releasing Mass Effect 3 for full price when all three games are available on other consoles for the same amount.

GI Joe hype machine resets, third Retaliation trailer revealed

Just shy of two months from the one year anniversary of the first trailer for GI Joe Retaliation making its splash on a worldwide Super Bowl audience, we are seeing the film’s third trailer. Since the intial splash of the first trailer, the movie was postponed, partially refilmed and converted to 3D. I’m not sure this movie can overcome the initial hype gut punch it received from the postponement. There are only a couple scenes we haven’t seen before, one including Duke (Channing Tatum), seemingly confirming that his death was rewritten as part of the postponement. I’m not sure I can be as excited about this as I was almost a year ago, but I’m still looking forward to it.

Share your thoughts in the comments below!

GI Joe Retaliation comes to theaters on March 29th 2013.

[EDIT – I moved the trailer below because it was auto playing anytime the front page loaded. Click on the article to view the trailer.]

Man of Steel trailer #2

Here is the second Man of Steel teaser. We’ve been seeing teaser images and trailers for this since mid-2011. I was hoping to see more than this. Heavy on voiceover, light on action. I’m sure a lot of people are excited over this, but I’m not. Not yet, at least.

$20 Game of the Week: Shin Megami Tensei – Strange Journey (Nintendo DS)

Strange Journey is a completely different direction for the popular RPG franchise, and at the same time it takes it back to it’s classic dungeon-crawling and exploitation heavy style of the classic SMT: Nocturne. Taking place in a sci-fi setting in the near future, you take control of a soldier who was sent to investigate a black hole in the Antarctic. When you get there, you discover that the place is full of demons. Thanks to a special device however, you can communicate with some of them, and convince them to fight alongside you in true SMT fashion. The plot is dialogue heavy, but it will keep you hooked. Whether you’re new to the franchise or a diehard fan, Strange Journey will present an interesting new twist for the SMT franchise, while still giving gamers plenty of the RPG demon-collecting gameplay the series is known for.

New Street Fighter X Mega Man game coming Dec. 17th

Street Fighter x Mega Man - Ryu doing a Hadouken

A new free game will be released by Capcom next Monday which will combine their two greatest franchises. Street Fighter X Mega Man uses Mega Man style game play and graphics but pits him against the World Warriors from the Street Fighter franchise! A trailer, included later in this post, as well as this blog post with details teases us with quite a bit of information.

Street Fighter X Mega Man fighting Chun-Li

It would appear this game was largely developed by a fan Seow Zong Hui with the music done by A_Rival. While the blog post and video mention it will be available on PC on December 17th it’s not clear if this is in reference simply to “Personal computer”, what PC really means, or the layman’s term used to mean “Not a Mac” or more accurately (as if layman’s terms are accurate) “Windows”.

Keep reading for the trailer and more screenshots.

Just a note: There were 39 posters in all here. The wide ones were quite large, so I made them fit in this post, but if you click on them, you will get the full size versions in all their glory.

Welcome to the Powet Top 5, where we explore the top (and bottom) 5 items we think are relevant to any of a variety of topics that span the imagination. Sit back, read, and respond

Now that Movember has come and gone for 2012, I figured a look back at some of the best mustaches in science fiction film was warranted. But five there are. Join us after the jump for the Top 5 mustaches in science fiction film!

Maximum Letdown: Street Fighter (Malibu Comics)

Many people, including myself, thought that the movie starring Jean Claude Van Damne was the low point of the Street Fighter franchise. Or you may have thought it was the game based on said movie. However, you’d be wrong on both counts. At least that movie was goofy enough to get some chuckles out of, and you can’t blame a developer for wanting to cash in on the digitized fighter craze. This 3-issue comic from Malibu however, was Street Fighter at it’s worst. How bad was it? Capcom itself asked them to pull the plug. This despite the company giving the okay to Hasbro to make a line of action figures that barely look like Street Fighter characters.
