Toy Fair 2011: Barbie and Ken back together again

Mattel’s big news this year was that Barbie has finally taken Ken back after dumping him seven years ago for an Australian surfer named Blaine. Mattel…er, Ken went so far as to rent out gigantic billboards to get Barbie’s attention and win her back. Full press release (yes, there was a press release) after the jump.

Read Barbie’s blog entry on the matter and tell us all about it in the comments.

I have to admit I’m a little surprised Mattel didn’t take this opportunity to make Lawyer Barbie to serve Ken a restraining order.

Botcon 2011 Exclusive Stunticon Wildrider revealed

Botcon.com has revealed the fourth figure in this year’s convention exclusive box set of Animated Stunticons. As expected, it is Wildrider. He uses the Blazing Lockdown mold with a retooled head. Unfortunately the hands aren’t fixed, but the head is pretty interesting. We also got a new view of the head thanks to the Collector Club’s facebook page. Next week, we finally get to see Motormaster!

Powetcast 49: Free Parking

I don’t think anyone planned on a long show. In fact, the show almost didn’t go on, with Sean and Sindra both out. But we got a last minute ringer in the form of Extra Zero, and still managed to talk about toys for an hour straight.

This may be the last Powetcast in the form you know it. We return with our 50th episode marking the 5th anniversary of Powet.tv next, and then a live recording from PAX. The show that comes back in March may be very different. Subscribe now and don’t miss it!

Adrianne Palicki Cast As Wonder Woman

Via the DC Nation twitter, we now know who will be TV’s next Wonder Woman.

Adrianne Palicki, a 27 year old actress best known for the recently concluded series Friday Night Lights, will take up the role of Diana Prince and the alter ego Wonder Woman. After several attemps by DC parent company Warner Bros to bring Wonder Woman to the silver screen in recent years, the prospect of a TV series was recently taken up by veteran David E. Kelley. Kelley, whose credits include Boston Public, Ally McBeal, and The Practice. A pilot episode is expect to begin production soon for NBC, which will be extended to a full season order if successful.

Previously a Wonder Woman series starring Lynda Carter ran for 3 seasons from 1975 to 1979 first on ABC and then CBS.

THQ secures video game license for Voltron

Variety brings us news that THQ has acquired the rights to Voltron for video games. The first game will launch around the same time as the new animated show Voltron Force on NickToons in the Fall of this year. The first entry in the video game series will follow the adventures of the original show from the 80’s Voltron: Defender of the Universe. Mattel will also be launching a brand new toy line based on the new series expected around the same time. I would not be surprised if there was a sub-line dedicated to the original line much like every other 80’s cartoon revival going strong today.

It should be noted that THQ recently also reached an agreement with Mattel itself, to create games based on its own in-house properties including Barbie and Masters of the Universe.

If we had our pick of lions, I’d probably pick to be the Yellow lion to take on Robeasts prior to ganging up and forming Voltron. How about you? Let us know in the comments!
