Toys R Us Exclusive Minimates Heralds of Galactus box set announced

Marvel Minimates Herlads of Galactus box set

Marvel Minimates Herlads of Galactus box set

From ArtAsylum’s blog:

A few months back, Toys “R” Us hosted a poll to choose who would be in their exclusive four-pack of Marvel Minimates spotlighting Galactus and his Heralds. And we are now pleased to reveal the lineup! Nova, Morg, Terrax and Galactus himself will be in the 4-pack, and each will be tricked out to the max. Nova will have a flaming flight base that connects to her fiery hair; Morg will have an axe and a flight base; Terrax will have his axe, a rock to ride on and a clear support stand; and Galactus will come with a teeny-tiny Silver Surfer accessory that hovers above his shoulder. Diamond Select is currently looking for a way to offer the two remaining characters, Airwalker and Firelord, in the regular Minimates line, but the Heralds of Galactus Box Set will be available at Toys “R” Us this winter! All of the Minimates in the set are 2 inches tall, and have 14 points of articulation.

TGS 2011: Day 2 Report

Day 2 of Toyo Game Show was just about as awesome as Day 1. I played a LOT of fighting games, including BlazBlue which I had just played for the first time. At a tournament. In public. With the editors of big magazines like Famitsu. Oh dear…

We don’t have a video up yet of that fateful event, but if you want to hear more just listen to the Famicom Dojo Podcast for details!

Also, this Angry Birds tshirt was given to us by two of the developers (whom we happened to randomly meet outside of the show). Check out the TwitPic! It’s for an expansion to the game that’s all Japan and Ninja-themed to help them break into the last market where their game is not completely dominating the sales charts. Will you buy it?

TGS 2011: Mass Effect 3

Quick rundown:

  • The Squad points system has been overhauled to offer more focused specialization for each power: area of attack vs. focused and powerful
  • Apparently there is no one brave/stupid enough to go up against the Reapers (due apparently to indoctrination), but the return of this “fertile female” to the Krogans means they will join Shepard in the fight.
  • Since no one is currently against the Reapers, that means all the Cerberus troops you fight against are allied WITH them somehow — not too surprising given the end of Mass Effect 2.
  • Liara is totally wearing her Lair of the Shadow Broker outfit! Lazy? Or just continuity?
  • Heat sink packs are still littered about this game. Oh well!
  • Play controls haven’t changed much, but I often find myself rolling out of cover when I just want to stand up. Is there a better button for this?
  • All of the usual biotic powers work the same way as the last two games, so warping the armor of the final piloted Cerberus mech was really no problem.

No, really! I turned to Vinnk after I was done and asked him if he was scared for me facing off against that huge machine.

All too easy.

VERY much looking forward to this in March 2012!

Theft of Superman Collection from Avid Fan Solved

A few weeks ago, there was a story making the rounds on the comic scene about the story of Mike Meyer; a 48 year-old mentally disabled man from St,Louis who was an avid collector of Superman comics and memorabilia. Mike, who works part-time at McDonalds to supplement his SSDI that he collects for having a mental defect, was robbed of his entire collection of more 1,800 comics and several priceless Superman collectables such as lunch boxes and figurines, by a former co-worker of his who had swindled Mike into allowing him into his apartment and had his girlfriend distract Mike while he robbed the place of the collectables.

Upon reporting the theft and sharing his story with the St.Louis Post-Dispatch, word spread amongst the comic book community as a whole, and a collection drive was established with the intent of building back up Mr. Meyer’s collection for him from donations of fellow comic fans and celebrities. The drive ended up gaining donations from all over the country and even England and Australia, which were collected by a friend and delivered to Mike to his astonishment.

As of today, the story comes to an end, as the robber of Mike’s collection was caught after he robbed a elderly man of money and jewelry. (making him our douchebag of the month) He is currently charged with several counts of burglary and is being held on $100,000 bail. The whole story can be found on the Post Dispatch here.

Just a happy story of how the geek community helps its own, and a sweet tale to end your week on.
