$20 Game of the Week: Shadows of the Damned (Xbox 360, PS3)

shadow_damnedps31

With yesterday being Halloween, it’s only fitting that we have horror inspired $20GOTW. Produced by Goichi Suda (Killer 7, No More Heroes) and Shinji Mikami (Resident Evil, Devil May Cry), scored by Akira Yamaoka (Silent Hill), and released by EA, Shadows of the Damned is a horror action-shooter that’s barely more than the sum of its parts, however, it’s still a decent game. Playing as demon hunter Garcia Hotspur, you return home to find your girlfriend Paula being kidnapped by a demon named Fleming. Along with your sidekick/weapon Johnson, you travel into hell which resembles a city slum. Players must battle their way through the game’s levels, and can upgrade Johnson to use his weapon abilities. There isn’t much to the game besides some interesting visuals. The gameplay is still solid, and it’s a fun waste of time. While SOTD may not be as psychological as Silent Hill or as esoteric as Killer 7, it’s still an excellent game from two of gaming’s most unique visionaries.

X-Men Resurrexion Details – New Books, New Direction

x-men-resurrection

Since All-New Marvel had been announced, many fans feared that the X-men books were being thrown towards the wayside in favor of Disney-approved heroes, and that the Inhumans were taking the place of mutants as the ‘hated and feared’ superpowered minority of the Marvel Universe. Happily, these fears seem to be unfounded. For the past few weeks, Marvel has been hinting at a ‘Resurrexion’ for the X-men books. A teaser went out two weeks ago, and last week, several new books were revealed, each of which being a throwback of sorts to the past. However, they leave some interesting questions in their wake, especially since the creative teams behind each book have yet to be revealed.

Red Dead Redemption 2 Trailer

After finally confirming what we all been suspecting since, forever, Rockstar gave us a first look at it’s wild western sequel. It doesn’t reveal a whole lot about the game, but seeing as how it’s not due until 2017, we’ll no doubt be learning more throughout the next several months.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 Teaser

Yesterday we got a look at the next installment of Marvel’s space odyssey. Not much was shown beside Chris Pratt as Star Lord, Zoe Saldana as Gammorah, Batista as Drax, and cameos by Rocket and Groot. However with Dr. Strange on the way in 2 weeks and the recent Logan trailer, we should have enough to chew on before the film’s May 5th 2017 release date.

Logan Trailer

Here’s our first look at Hugh Jackman’s last outing as Wolverine. While it looks somewhat inspired by the Old Man Logan storyline, it looks like most of its inspiration comes from Clint Eastwood westerns and Mad Max. It’s definitely a different take on the superhero genre and could be fitting for Wolverine’s last hurrah. We also get a glimpse of Patrick Stewart as Charles Xavier, Boyd Holbrook as villain Donald Pierce, and a little girl that some believe could be X-23. Check it out and tell us what you think.

Justice League Meets The Power Rangers This January!

JL_PR

Hot on the heels of the last DC Comics/Boom Studios crossover, Gotham Academy/Lumberjanes, DC and Boom Studios announced that DC’s flagship heroes will be teaming up with the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. The adventure begins when Zack gets flung into the DC Universe via teleportation accident, and the other Rangers must disembark to save him. Interestingly enough, this Justice League looks like it includes both Cyborg and the John Stewart Green lantern. The crossover will be a six issue miniseries starting this January. Between this, the upcoming movie, and the recently announced video game, now is a good time to be a Power Rangers fan.
