$20 Game of the Week: The Elder Scrolls 4 Oblivion (Xbox 360, PS3, PC)

To think it was over 5 years ago when I first put out a hands-on feature about this game. With Skryim right around the corner, now is the perfect time to do a follow up. For those of you who missed the hands on, Oblivion is the follow up to ES3: Morrowind, which was one of my favorite games on the original Xbox. As much as I liked Morrowind, it was far from perfect, so naturally when I heard about Oblivion, I was buzzed. Not only would it be a next generation installment of the franchise, the folks at Bethesda Softworks would fix all the issues in Morrowind. When the end product was released, it was a beautiful thing indeed. Not only did Bethesda live up to its promises, it (along with EA’s Fight Night Round 3 which was also released that week) helped to put a definitive end to the “Xbox 1.5” jokes and created one of the greatest games in any console generation.

Red Faction Origins Trailer

Editor’s note: I did not choose the thumbnail for the embedded video.

THQ’s Red Faction is being made into a SyFy Channel movie that may become an original series. We first heard about this a year ago, but its finally going to air in June 4.

This definitely looks like a Syfy original, which might not be a bad thing. Hopefully this movie and the next Red Faction title both live up to the seriously awesome and fun Red Faction Guerilla that came out in 2009.

Press release with cast details after the jump. [Read the rest of this entry…]

Powetcast 53: Fatality

Zac is joined by Crazy, aDam, Sean and Sindra once again. Listen for a (spoiler free) early review of Thor, a run down on Mortal Kombat and Dr Who, and a legnthy discussion on the PSN outage.

Also, Osama Bin Laden’s death was announced while we were recording, so the last few minutes of the show take a weird turn.

Listen live on this page, or subscribe via RSS or iTunes.

Stuff You Want for the week of 2011.05.02

Another somewhat slow week in the world or game releases, which I suppose is a good thing considering the PlayStation Network is still down indefinitely. Thor comes out in theaters next weekend, but the video game tie-in will be released this week.

More after the jump!

Marvel Announces Marvel Universe MMO

Marvel Universe MMO

Last night at a press event Marvel announced a free to play Marvel Universe MMO developed by Secret Identity Studios. The game is being written by award winning Marvel writer Brian Michael Bendis. There is no release date set for the game yet, and currently it is only announced for PC with consoles TBD.

Not a lot of details are available yet, but it was revealed that players will be able to play as existing Marvel characters, instead of new characters that players create like in DC’s recently released DCU Online. It was also revealed that the main villain of the game will be Dr. Doom.
