First 9 minutes of new Thundercats surfaces

The first 9 minutes of the series premiere of the Thundercats has surfaced (and posted above). This has hooked me in like no other trailer has. If I had any doubts, they have been cast aside with anticipation for this series premiere. The show’s animation looks fantastic and the story being setup is interesting. Also, Wily Kit and Wily Kat are ADORABLE!

Cartoon Network Expands DC and WB Animation

This post includes a press release as that will take you the rest of the day to read, but here are the basics…

Cartoon Network historically has had huge success with shows based on DC Comics characters (JLU, Batman Brave And The Bold) as well as Warners Bros Animation (Looney Toons, Ben 10), and so they’re ordering several new series as well as renewing some successes.

The hotly anticipated Green Lantern The Animated will follow in the footsteps that Batman The Animated series did in 1992 by bringing a character to the small screen following a big movie opening. Differing from previous DC animated presentations is that this GL series will be entirely computer animated, unlike the past 19 years of Batman, Superman, and other series.
Hal Jordan and the Green Lantern Corp will join the renewed Young Justice and Batman Brave and The Bold as part of the “DC Nation” block, which the press release implies may see other DC properties down the line. Safe bet on some of the DC direct to video movies over the last 3 years such as New Frontier and Under The Red Hood airing in these slots as well.

Thundercats is also now officially being announced as part of Cartoon Networks falls schedule from Warner Bros Animation. WB will also relaunch Looney Toons in a “contemporary” animated style. CN is renewing Ben 10 and Scooby Doo as well.

In related news, Cartoon Network has ordered a series based on the How To Train Your Dragon series of books and CG movie.

Rounding out the announcements: “LEGO Ninjago” which is a cartoon series based on ninjas made out of LEGO.

You may now read the press release.

Young Justice On Cartoon Network Will Have Some Old Justice Too.

Young Justice is a new series coming to Cartoon Network based on the DC comics of the same title. Its not directly affiliated with previous DC Universe animation such as Justice League Unlimited or Teen Titans. If you haven’t see the preview clip already, watch it here.

But that doesn’t mean those characters are off limits. At a panel at New York Comic Con, Series producers Greg Weisman (Gargoyles) and Brandon Vietti (Batman: Brave & Bold) showed that this younger Justice League will serve under the direction of the Justice League. Batman, Red Tornado, and Black Canary will play a direct role in the training, dispatch, and care of the team. Not that there aren’t some other heavy hitters that will show up as well, as you can see by the character designs. Titans Tower reported some of the voice cast of the show as Bruce Greenwood as Batman, Alan Tudyk as Green Arrow, Nolan North as Superman, Phil Lemarr as Aquaman and Rob Lowe as Captain Marvel. Greenwood previously played Batman in “Under The Red Hood” as well as Captain Pike in the 2009 Star Trek film.

Weisman claims they have over 150 DC characters slated to appear in the show, with original characters kept to a minimum. They have no restrictions or embargoes on who can appear in the show, so any DC universe character can and likely will appear in Young Justice.

Robin will be the Dick Grayson version, and Kid Flash will be Wally West. They’re starting over the entire DC animated universe with this show, and adding some original touches to characters. Superboy will be Conner Kent (eventually), but will start the show as a clone of Superman only 16 weeks old.

Young Justice announced voice cast will be as follows: Jesse McCarthy as Robin, Jason Spizak as Kid Flash, Khary Payton as Aqualad, Nolan North as Superboy, Danica McKellar as Miss Martian, and Stephanie Lemelin as Artemis.

A preview episode will air on Cartoon Network in November 2010, the rest of the 26 episode season will follow in Spring 2011.
