Syfy has announced in a statement that it has seen fit to cancel Caprica, the prequel series to rebooted Battlestar Galactica.
“The remaining first run episodes of Caprica – airing Tuesdays at 10/9c – will be removed from the schedule as of next Tuesday, November 2. These final five episodes of the season will be re-scheduled to air at a to be announced time in the first quarter of 2011, and will conclude the run of the series.”
“We appreciate all the support that fans have shown for Caprica and are very proud of the producers, cast, writers and the rest of the amazing team that has been committed to this fine series,” said Mark Stern, programming head at Syfy. “Unfortunately, despite its obvious quality, Caprica has not been able to build the audience necessary to justify a second season.”
This news comes very soon after Syfy ordering a new pilot for a series based in the same Battlestar Galactica universe that occurs between Caprica and Battlestar Galactica. It will follow a young William Adama, a fresh recruit from the academy assigned to the brand new Battlestar, Galactica. Events will take place during the first Cylon war. The series will be called Battlestar Galactica: Blood and Chrome. Executive Producer David Eick is back without Ron Moore this time around.
Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome takes place in the 10th year of the first Cylon war. As the battle between humans and their creation, a sentient robotic race, rages across the 12 colonial worlds, a brash rookie viper pilot enters the fray. Ensign William Adama, barely in his 20’s and a recent Academy graduate, finds himself assigned to the newest battlestar in the Colonial fleet… the Galactica. The talented but hot-headed risk-taker soon finds himself leading a dangerous top secret mission that, if successful, will turn the tide of the decade long war in favor of the desperate fleet.

It’s the third supplemental in a row! We’ve already edited Episode 11, and promise there won’t be one next time. But THIS week, we continue our discussion about Prequels delving into how Star Wars has been ruined forever. We also discuss Battlestar Galactica: Razor’s right to exist.
How do you feel about upcoming prequel movie “The Plan”, as well as prequel series “Caprica”? Leave your comments below!
DST has posted some news about a forthcoming wave of BSG minimates. The wave will be based on characters from the BSG: Razor movie. Here is an excerpt from the article:
While the exact mix is yet to be revealed, several different Minimates will be included in each case – featuring the following designs and a few surprises:
Cylon Pilots & Cylon Warriors – These silver Cylon Centurions were seen attacking the Colonies in several Battlestar Galactica: Razor flashbacks.
Cylon Commanders – The gold versions of these Cylons seem to have a higher capacity for battlefield tactics and guerilla warfare.
Pegasus Six – This version of Six was discovered by Kendra Shaw as it was boarding the Battlestar Pegasus. Her exact mission is unknown, thanks to Kendra’s quick thinking and deadly aim.
Freefall Cylon – This Cylon Centurion continued its pursuit of a young William Adama even after its raider was destroyed – resulting in an action-packed freefall recreated with this Minimate.
Minimate HQ points us to the DST site where the lineup for the fourth and possible final wave of Battlestar Galactica Minimates has been announced. The wave is slated to include:
President Roslin with Arrow of Apollo and Zarek (Council of Twelve version I think)
Cali in deck suit and Lt Gaeta
Doc Cottle and Lab Coat Baltar
Variant: Miniseries Baltar
DST also reminds us to check out the BSG action figures coming later this Fall.
Minimates are pretty hot lately and have announced quite a few new licenses that they have acquired. While all is well and good with expansion, we still appreciate that the current licenses are still getting their just attention. Battlestar Galactica is one license that got off to a very awkward start after DST and Art Asylum has some sort of…well, I’m not even sure what to call it, but the original plans for the first few waves were scrapped and DST set our expectations anew (and a little lower. We still want our Minimate Vipers and Raiders, DST!).
According to Minimate HQ, series 3 of the BSG Minimates was revealed in some promotional material at NYCC. The wave includes Kara Thrace & Lee Adama, D’Anna Biers & Sharon Valeri, Helo & Deck Chief Tyroll, and Helo & Tyroll (Chase). I’m sure Grace Park will be excited to see her likeness in a new mold. You can check out a full picture of the entire wave below.
Sci-Fi channel and Virgin comics have established a partnership, presumably to get shows into comic form, and comics into show form.
Sci-Fi also had a panel dedicated to Battlestar: Galactica, revealing there would be a direct-to-DVD movie, which will actually later air on Sci-Fi. Surprised it isn’t the other way around, but whatever works, I guess. (Thanks to Crazy for pointing this one out.)
If anything more comes in, I’ll be sure to update, but today seems to have petered out a bit. Just for fun, here’s a recap of yesterday’s biggest headlines –
Marvel and Top Cow Comics are both currently working on a digital distribution plans for their comics.
Marvel announced a Halo ongoing comic, to be written by Brian Michael Bendis, with art by Alex Maleev.
Ultimate delays – Ultimates #13 should be out by May or April (I’m betting not before May), Orson Scott Card is still working on Ultimate Iron Man 2, no release date yet for Ultimates 3, Ultimate Wolverine/Hulk has a completed script for 3 – and almost one for 4.
On the DC side, Dan Didio got flustered and admitted that the Red Robin and Flash in the recent teaser image are Jason Todd and Barry Allen. Everyone else on the panel got mad at him, so this must be pretty important.
