$20 GOTW and Lost Classics Special: X-men Games part 2

Welcome back to Xavier’s school for gifted youngsters. This is part 2 of our special edition X-men $20 GOTW and lost classics. In the first part we looked at some of the lows of the X-men franchise. You can find pretty much all of these games in stores, and most of them retail for $20 or less.

Transformers Club announces first wave of Classics 2.0 and confirms club exclusives

Transformers Universe Onslaught Post Banner

Powet board member Tigerpaw has shared some info with us from the Transformers Collector Club:

At 7:44pm EST tonight, a listing of the first wave of the upcoming Universe/Classics 2.0 toys was posted in the Transformers Collectors Club Forums. Also posted was news that the Seacons re-issue, and club exclusive Nightbeat toy that have been rumored, are now officially a go, with hopes that they’ll be ready in time for Botcon. Pre-orders will be in March with the figures shipping in April.

Then at precisely 7:45pm, the Master Collector servers crashed from the ensuing rush of traffic.

At 8:20 or so, the servers came back up, and I finally got a look at the post. The rundown:

Wave 1 of Classics 2.0/Universe

Deluxes:
Sunstreaker
Prowl
Tankor (Octane)

Ultras:
Onslaught
powetglide

A picture was posted of Sunstreaker but per club rules, it is not allowed to be reposted. It’s not known at this time whether pictures of the other figures will be posted or not.

We saw some design and proto images of Tankor/Octane at Botcon. Onslaught was revealed in the image above not too long ago. Since I’m also a member of the club, I logged in to see Sunstreaker and, although he looked mistransformed a bit, he appears to be a nice addition to the line.

Battlestar Galactica: Razor minimates announced

Minimates BSG Razor Design Art Post BannerMinimates BSG Razor Design Art 2 Post Banner

DST has posted some news about a forthcoming wave of BSG minimates. The wave will be based on characters from the BSG: Razor movie. Here is an excerpt from the article:

While the exact mix is yet to be revealed, several different Minimates will be included in each case – featuring the following designs and a few surprises:

Cylon Pilots & Cylon Warriors – These silver Cylon Centurions were seen attacking the Colonies in several Battlestar Galactica: Razor flashbacks.

Cylon Commanders – The gold versions of these Cylons seem to have a higher capacity for battlefield tactics and guerilla warfare.

Pegasus Six – This version of Six was discovered by Kendra Shaw as it was boarding the Battlestar Pegasus. Her exact mission is unknown, thanks to Kendra’s quick thinking and deadly aim.

Freefall Cylon – This Cylon Centurion continued its pursuit of a young William Adama even after its raider was destroyed – resulting in an action-packed freefall recreated with this Minimate.

$20 GOTW/Lost Classics Special: X-Men Games Part 1

mlkjr.jpgprofessorx.jpgToday, we celebrate the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr, a man who has dedicated his life to equality between people of all races. In the 1960s, Stan Lee and Jack Kirby created the X-men, a comic book about a team of superheroes dedicated to equality between human and mutant. Even though the cast was all Caucasian at the time, the book explored race relations in a profoundly brilliant manner without the material being heavy handed. Over time, the team’s roster would expand to include heroes from many different backgrounds, from the Jewish Kitty Pryde and the African Storm to the Native American Mirage. Throughout their 40+ year history, the X-men have seen many ups and downs, both in and out of comics, and video gaming is no different. What better way is there to celebrate Dr King’s dream than to have a look back at the interactive adventures of Xavier’s finest? In the first part of this two part special, we’ll take a look at some of the earliest games starring the children of the atom. The second part, coming later this week, will feature the Marvel vs Capcom games as well as Activision’s X-men titles.

Spectacular Spider-man starts March 8

Spectacular Spiderman animated character designs

While we haven’t talked much about it on the site, I came across some more details on the new Spider-man animated series coming to the CW network. It will be premiering March 8 at 10AM EST. I didn’t realize it at first, but it appears that the character designs are actually done by Sean “Cheeks” Galloway, whom some of you may know from his character design work for the Hellboy Animated movies.

Masterpiece Grimlock?

mp07grimlock.jpg There’s a lot of stuff happening in the world of Transformers. Too much for us to report on, so we have to pick the best and coolest news a let our friends at TFW2005 tackle the rest. News on a Masterpiece figure counts as the best news.
A posting at ACToys includes and image of original Dinobot Grimlock’s figure with the implication that he will be the basis for the next in the Masterpiece line. Previous figures include Optimus Prime (recolored to Ultra Magnus), Starscream (recolored to Skywarp), and Megatron. Real images of the figure can’t be far off from this teaser, and we’ll deliver them to you as soon as we see them.

Grimlock has long been one of the most popular Transformers chracters, appearing in the 1986 movie and taking a lead role in several comic series. He’s also a favorite for inclusion in the sequel to the 2007 Transformers movie. Learn more on Teletraan 1.

New DS Castlevania Game Image Leaked

cv.jpgWhat at first started as just a bunch of gossip on the GameFAQs forums has turned into something quite a bit more. A thread (which has been since deleted) started by a confirmed VIP of Konami America (supposedly a translator of the localization team) produced some interesting tidbits of information, including a supposed beta image of the upcoming game in production which can be seen to the right.

The game’s supposed name? Akumajo Dracula: Ubawareta Kokuin. (Castlevania: The Stolen Seal)

Of course this leads to much speculation and many denouncings by the Castlevania community, who are skeptical of the image, after a hoax game (the falsely titled “Duel Moons”) a few years back managed to fool even members of several gaming news sites. This new rumor could very well be the same photoshopped nightmare. What also make fans raise an eyebrow is the fact the image portrays the main playable character as a female protagonist – something series producer IGA has stated he doesn’t like doing. (secondary female characters are fine though, it would seem)

So, with no official word from the Konami bigwigs, and only an image and one man’s words to go by, we’ll just have to see if this is another hoax, or if it could be the first we see of the third 2D Castlevania DS game that has been confirmed by Konami. Once I know, you’ll know.
