MOTU Classics Roboto’s shoulders are backwards

Smarmy Prick

Take a deep breath, MOTU fans. Apparently, MOTU Classics Roboto’s shoulders are backwards. And they’ve been like that for months and noone noticed until today. Today, being 4 days before Roboto is set to go on sale at MattyCollector.com.

The images in this post are comparing pictures from SDCC 2010 to photos of the original Roboto figure, on which, this Classics figure is based. The Four Horsemen, who sculpted the new figure, are known for their attention to detail. Based on this, the way this quality control error was found was by the mismatching of the circuitry.

Now that we have established the facts, lets take a moment to reflect. This happened once before on the first release of He-Man, the first figure in the line. I pointed out the differences in the video comparison I made of the original release and the corrected re-issue. Many who bought the original figure swapped the shoulders themselves. This won’t be possible with Roboto because the arms are not removable from the new torso.

Some of the Club Eternia subscribers are very upset because they were asked to blindly pay for figures without knowing what they would be getting. Now they are being forced to accept a figure with known quality control problems. Many who chose not to subscribe and instead to purchase their figures individually on the site have stated that they will be skipping this release due to the newfound error, in addition to the statement that Roboto’s reissue will have both hands removable (though I cannot find where this has been stated). In the MattyCollector “Ask Matty” forum, someone suggested bumping Roboto to a later month to fix this error and to use one of the bonus figures to fill the slot in the meantime. This is the scenario exactly described for the existence of the bonus figures. It seems pretty late in the game for that though. I’m sure that these misassembled figures are already in Digital River’s warehouse waiting to be shipped to subscribers. If comments in forums and blogs are any indication, many subscribers will be returning their Robotos to make it clear to Mattel that this is not acceptable.

On one hand, noone noticed it for over three months, on the other, that second detachable hand sure is a neat incentive to wait for the reissue.

Bumblebee Camaro gets in real accident while filming Transformers 3

News has been flying across the tubes, that during the filming of a scene for Transformers 3, a real police vehicle raced through the set on his way to an emergency, unwittingly putting himself in the path of the Camaro.

3rd St SW is closed for most of the week for filming, but that doesn’t prevent emergency vehicles from traveling through the area. An ambulance passed through the set shortly before the Autobot convoy went into action. A District police SUV trailing the ambulance less than a minute too late collided with the custom Chevrolet that’s used for Bumblebee in vehicle mode. The damage to the front end of Bumblebee is massive and its likely they’ll have to use a double to finish filming this week. No word on if either driver is injured but it appeared to be a relatively low speed hit. Crew quickly covered the stunt car, but not before many tourists and film fans caught photos and video of Bumblebee in bits.

Director Michael Bay was likely uninvolved with the accident, as neither car went airborne or exploded.

X-Men Classic 6 Player Arcade Game Coming to 360/PS3

Marvel’s video game panel at New York Comic Con had a few cool announcements about the future of Captain America in games, and some unexpected reveals for Marvel VS Capcom 3.

But for classic gamers, the big news is the return of the mammoth X-Men brawler from Konami. Originally released in 1992 with character designs pulled from the Pryde of the X-Men TV Pilot, this machine was different from similar Simpsons and TMNT brawlers in that it allowed up to 6 players instead of the usual 4. With so much action on screen, the cabinet was expanded to two side by side monitors. With the universal adoption of widescreen TVs in the last few years, its expected that not much of that will be lost in this new port.

Konami intends to keep 6 player support with online “drop in/drop out” co-op, just like the old quarter muncher.

The best news is the trailer features a classic spoken line from the game, courtesy of Magneto: “X-Men, Welcome to die!” which leads me to believe all the Engrish is intact. The Juggernaut will also retain his bazooka, even if that makes absolutely no sense.

No release date announce, its expected in 2011

Powet Alphabet: O is for Odiphus

Many who are familiar with the Masters of the Universe franchise are familiar with the diverse and comical cast of villains. Many of the characters in general were named pretty obviously; Fisto had a big fist, Skeletor had a skull for a head, Tri-klops had 3 eyes, Webstor was a big spider guy, Ninjor was a ninja and Spikor was a henchman with lots of spikes. The people naming these characters should have taken the moniker Masters of the Obvious. Not to be outdone by those examples, though, they went ahead and named an anthropomorphic skunk, Stinkor.

The Walking Dead Premeire Trailer

AMC has released a new, action packed preview of The Walking Dead. The show will begin its Sunday night airings on October 31, 2010; this Halloween.

I’ve mentioned it before, but this is based on the excellent comic series by Robert Kirkman. If AMC adapts this well, they have years of shows ahead of them.

AMC has also released a pretty cool looking poster with protagonist Rick Grimes (played by Andrew Lincoln) riding into Atlanta after the outbreak. Click the thumbnail to explode the image.
