TNI has a couple of interesting interviews up that both touch upon DC Comics action figures. First up is Ryan Mansaur, brand manager for DC Superheroes at Mattel. Next up is Georg Brewer of DC Direct.
I thought it was interesting to find out just how hamstrung Mattel is on the DC Superheroes line (the first decent answer to Marvel Legends from Mattel so far). DC Direct is similarly limited in their control since they contract sculptors instead of doing all the sculpting in-house like Toy Biz did. I always had reservations about DC Direct because of their inconsistency from line to line. Apparently, the outsourcing is the main reason at fault for that, but they are looking to correct that. I still think they underestimate the need for better articulation, but I’m a pretty hardcore Marvel Legends fan so you’d have a hard time convincing me otherwise.

Microsoft’s online service will celebrate is One-Year anniversary with a massive addition of new media. Starting on November 22, Xbox 360 owners will be able to use Live Marketplace for more than just horse armor or fake money. TV Shows from Adult Swim, MTV, and CBS will be available to purchase and download and new HD movies like Superman Returns, V for Vendetta, and Jackass will be available to rent. This follows a year of very successful offerings for game and movie trailers, as well as original content like exclusive Red vs. Blue clips.
Theres still an awfull lot of people out there with HD TVs with no cable or satellite feed. This fills a content gap for sure. The only worry is the Xbox 360‘s hard drive. 20GB seemed like more than enough when we were talking about game saves, some music, and a few demos. How long until Microsoft unleashes the 100 GB Hard Drive.?
The five-part animated series is produced by Japanese studio Gonzo in association/partnership with GHK K.K. and FUNimation and premieres on SPIKE Thursday, January 4, 2007
I just noticed that IMDB is listing Kelly Hu as Yuriko Oyama in the Wolverine movie, listed as ‘in pre-production’. So expect to see a rematch of Wolverine vs. Lady Deathstrike, or at least some interesting flashbacks.
A Superman sequel looks like a go with Bryan Singer on board to produce and direct.
Action Comics #844
I rarely buy Superman comics. So when the new issue of Action Comics hit the stands today, I completely forgot why it was THE book to buy this month. It took someone in the shop to remind me, and as soon as he did, I was ashamed at having forgotten. See, this arc of Action Comics is being co-written by Geoff Johns and Richard Donner. That’s Richard Donner, as in, director of the first Superman movie. The one who was recently granted the opportunity to re-cut Superman II with old, lost footage he shot way back when, just before he got unceremoniously kicked to the curb. This alone is reason enough to make a person sit up and take notice.
Now available on YouTube, HERE is some footage from the Superman Returns video game. There are scenes of battle with giant enemies, fights with multiple hand-to-hand opponents, racing around using super-speed, and the obligatory rescue missions – specifically one where he’s using his super-breath on a … tornado. Weird.
What really caught my attention though is the segment, about two-thirds of the way through, clearly demonstrating the player in control of Bizarro, using his heat vision on the city. Based on the appearance of things, it looks like we’ll finally have a Superman video game that isn’t absolute hell to play through, at the very least. And a best case scenario might have game this topping the movie in terms of enjoyment. Hate to say it, but it already easily does so in terms of action, in this footage alone.
