Transformers Animated Movie Blu-Ray Review

Transformers the Movie Blu-Ray

You can buy the Blu-Ray disc from amazon.co.uk for a reasonable price. They will ship to North America, and the disc will play on Blu-Ray players here too. Mine worked on a North American PS3.

Transformers the Movie Blu-Ray Cover Transformers the Movie 20th Anniversary Edition DVD Cover

Note that the cover art shown on the amazon.co.uk website shows the “Ultimate Edition” 2 disc version with 5 hours of extras and with a PG rating, as opposed to what I have which is a single disc, no extras version that is rated U. I ordered my disc on that same site so you may or may not end up with something better than I got. I did not notice this discrepancy when I shot this video, and was not aware of the art and extras listed when I ordered this.

Powet Toys: Transformers Movie Ultimate Bumblebee

Transformation instrumental mixed by Tony Bacala

The transformation sequence has been sped up in the main video. You can see the full transformation in normal speed in a separate video attached after the jump. Keep in mind that its long and that is why it was sped up in the main video.

Correction: I refer to 20th Anniversary Optimus Prime as 25th Anniversary Optimus Prime. My bad.

If you are looking to purchase Ultimate Bumblebee, you can do so by going hereat Amazon.com.

Transformers 2 Delayed

transformers2delayed.jpg
With the DVD release of Transformers right around the corner and the movie still yet to see its September 21st IMAX release, you’d think Dreamworks, Paramount, and Hasbro would be eager to talk about making a sequel to their $600+ Million movie. Well producer Don Murphy is talking…

For those of you most anxious about TRANSFORMERS 2, the silence you hear is primarily because people are fretting about a presumed strike in June 2008. Will it happen? I don’t know- does the public care about strikes anymore in this day and age? What do rich people have to strike about anyway? I don’t have any side here (you hear about the writers and the Producers but that actually means the STUDIOS) I just think stopping work is kind of pointless. But since no one wants to be filming IF a strike happens, everything needs to be done filming by the end of May 2008. So this is affecting the lack of news about Transformers 2 at least for now. Stay tuned.

So the good news is they’re not going to try to rush something, but the bad news is we’ll have to wait until the whole thing gets sorted out. I don’t know enough about the Hollywood strike to tell you what might happen, but I don’t think anyone actually wants to stop working so I’m sure they’ll find a resolution before we run out of movies.

Coronation Starscream Bust coming to AFX

Coronation Starscream Bust Post Banner

TFW2005 is reporting that AFX will be offering a Coronation Starscream Bust from Diamond Select Toys in the first quarter of 2008. I have mirrored the image below.

I’m not normally wild about Transformers busts, but this one tempts me a little bit. The DST busts have been stepping it up lately.

Paramount and Dreamworks Back HD DVD

Transformers on HD DVD
Viacom has mentioned in this press release that Paramount and Dreamworks are now exclusively backing HD DVD over the competing Blu-Ray format. In recent months as many studios who had been backing HD DVD began releasing movies in both formats it’s a bit unusual to see studios taking the side that’s having less economic success.

Studios affected by this deal are Paramount Pictures, DreamWorks Animation SKG, DreamWorks Pictures, Paramount Vantage, Nickelodeon Movies and MTV Films. The first features to be released exclusively to HD DVD will be Shrek the 3rd, Blades of Glory and Transformers.

No doubt this will mean great things for HD DVD as this format war really comes down to who gets the better exclusive titles. Naturally some biased people are getting their panties in a bunch over the whole debacle.

Coupling this with the resent increase in the number of weekly HD DVD titles released it certainly looks like the early lead Blu-Ray had in this format war may not have been the quick end it once seemed to be.

Transformers: Bigger than Spider-Man

Bigger than Spiderman

If you had told me 20 years ago, after the abysmal box office showing that was the original Transformers animated feature, that a Transformers film would outdo Spider-Man’s opening week gross, I would have said, “What, that weird kid that appeared in the comic book? So?”

Sorry, run that forward a little bit.

If you had told me five years ago, after Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man film made $400 million at the domestic box office, breaking records along the way, that a Transformers film would (so far) outdo that hot property the same year as the third installment, I would have laughed. If the best that the Aquaman property could hope for was to beat Spider-Man in a fictional scenario in the HBO series Entourage, surely in the real world a toy company’s property had even less of a chance.

Well, now Michael Bay is laughing. All the way to his gold-plated Camaro. (Goldbug?)

The Transformers opening 6-day gross of over $155 milion has beaten out Spider-Man’s $151 million, and so far it shows little sign of slowing down. Along the way, it garnered the highest opening Tuesday ever (by $12 million dollars — up 80% from now-second place), the third highest Wednesday ever (now fourth, thanks to Harry Potter’s new record-setting Wednesday premiere), and the title as the biggest opening week for a non-sequel in all of film history — the title which Spider-Man held until last Sunday.

New Avengers / Transformers #1Spider-Man is clearly not very happy about this development. Not content to leave the battle at the box office, our intrepid arachnid friend was last seen hurling himself into battle against the alien robot menace at the end of the first issue of the New Avengers / Transformers 4-part mini-series. Not since Transformers #3 — at the time a Marvel publication — have we seen these two clash. Guys, can’t we all just get along?

Transformers DS Impressions

Shock and awe has gripped the Nintendo DS and Transformers fans alike as they new licensed game based on the 2007 Transformers movie is blowing away expectations. Our friend Tigerpaw elaborates:

My initial impressions on these games? Good with a capital G. The graphics are great. The FMV intro is amazing and the in game graphics are well-rendered and amazingly well detailed. Audio is top notch too, with all the character voice overs you could possibly want. Gameplay is solid along with solid controls. Players will have a blast stomping and racing all over the 3D environment. I’m not really far enough in to comment on the story but it’s looking pretty good so far. While it’s a really cool single player game, I think it may shine even more in multiplayer, where some great melee battles are sure to be had. Big thumbs up.

More poweteers chime in on our forums! This is great news for those of us awaiting the console releases this week.
