Time is often referred to as the fourth dimension of the space-time continuum. Unlike the three dimensions of space that we keep trying (with varying degrees of success) to recreate in entertainment media, it is often likened to a straight line. The chagrin of would-be time travelers everywhere, it also appears to move in only one direction. General Relativity may allow for time to pass more quickly or slowly under certain conditions, but it always marches to the inexorable end.
But what if we could break “the arrow of time”, and turn it back on itself. What would that mean? How would it be done? And what would the consequences be?
Many geek interests have tackled this subject, and more than a few have seeped into the minds of the 18-35 general audience. Come on a time journey with us… [Read the rest of this entry…]
Actors Terry O’Quinn and Micheal Emerson were two of the most enjoyable on a cast full of great characters actors on LOST. As the man of faith John Locke and the man of mystery and double cross Benjamin Linus respectively, they stole any scene they weren’t already the focus of.
Before the show ended, O’Quinn mentioned in interviews he and Emerson were playing with ideas for a new series, mentioning they’d play bounty hunters or secret agents. It looks like LOST executive producer JJ Abrams heard the call, and his Bad Robot production company now has an order for their show.
Rumors began circulating on Monday that the tentatively titled “Odd Jobs” would be a comedic drama where Emerson and O’Quinn would play former black ops secret agents living in suburbia. It was pitched to networks and now has a pilot order for NBC. The show could get into production as early as next year. Alias writers Josh Appelbaum and Andre Nemec will helm the series, JJ Abrams and Bryan Burk will serve as executive producers.
The hardest part about all series trying to replicate LOST’s success (V, The Event, Flash Forward, etc) has been that none have the stregnth of actors and characters to keep the show moving even in dull moments. With two of LOST’s funniest and most interesting character actors on board (both had Emmy nominations this year), “Odd Jobs” may end up being a success even if it lacks a sci fi fantasy twist.
Weezer announced they’d have a new album called Hurley a while ago. Any fan of LOST thinks first of the character Hugo Reyes played by actor Jorge Garcia, knicknamed “Hurley”
Apparently as the band was considering titles and covers, one photo of singer/songwriter Rivers Cuomo with Garcia was a clear favorite. As a result, the cover of the album will simply be a closeup of Garcia’s face with no text.
Says Cuomo, “I just loved this photo of Jorge Garcia — it just had this amazing vibe. We didn’t want to do a fourth self-titled record and we knew people would refer to it as ‘the Hurley record’ even if left it without that title, so we just called it ‘Hurley.’ No words are on the cover because all we wanted was his amazing face.”
Even though theres no connection for the songs themselves (Cuomo says he’s only up to season 2 on dvd), Lost Executive Producer Damon Lindelof none the less was excited: “New Weezer album title had to be a coincidence. Then I saw the cover. So. Damn. AWESOME.”
Hurley will be released on September 14th, the first single “Memories” is making the rounds on rock radio.
An extensive look back at the series that redefined network television. We discuss and dissect the final episode, compare island philosphies, and examine six years of great (and godawful!) storytelling. Spoilers abound, but you knew that anyway!

King Koopa is Dead; Long Live the King. We talk about Season and Series finales, comics made into movies, games made into movies, comics made into games (and back into comics). Waiting for our LOST thoughts! They’re coming in a special Cool Beans! Listen on, dear Poweteers.
Back into the swing of things after PAX with news… and Cool Beans? Find out what you’ve been missing on LOST, what you can expect in Doctor Who, and just what the heck a Pokewalker is for, anyway.
(Did you go to Anime Boston or Boston Comic Con? Enjoying the direct of LOST or Doctor Who this year? Do you have a Pokewalker? Leave a shout out below!)
Since the alphabet is the building block of our language, the Powet Alphabet is the building block of what makes us geeks.
What is this composite, amalgamated entity? If you’re a fan of anything Science Fiction, Science Fantasy, or generally geek, you’ve seen movies and/or TV shows by at least one of these three gentlemen — if not all three — even if you don’t know their names. Of the many things they have in common, the most obvious (and least important) is that all of their names start with “J”. I frequently can’t think of one without thinking of the other two. Together they are like some triune entity, the three faces of a Geek (not “Greek”) god.
(Are you looking forward to the Season 6 premiere of LOST? If you’ve time traveled here from the future, have you already seen it? Leave a comment below!)
