Mission: Impossible-Styled Email

Email IconIn a little poof of momentary genius, the Devon Hillard of Digital Sanctuary has brought about a small miracle for those of us plagued by needing temporary email verifications for services and programs – 10 Minute Mail.

Welcome to 10 Minute Mail

By clicking on the link below, you will be given a temporary e-mail address. Any e-mails sent to that address will show up automatically on the web page. You can read them, click on links, and even reply to them. The e-mail address will expire after 10 minutes.

Why would you use this? Maybe you want to sign up for a site which requires that you provide an e-mail address to send a validation e-mail to. And maybe you don’t want to give up your real e-mail address and end up on a bunch of spam lists. This is nice and disposable. And it’s free. Enjoy!

Will such a thing prove to be a savior to those who hate signing up for multiple email accounts to use on stupid things like signing up for free products or programs? Or, will it prove to be the downfall of email as we know it? The world may never know.

“Foul Tempered” Bunny Attacks Woman

Monty PythonMonty Python’s got nothing on this.

In the town of Linz, Austria, a possibly rabid rabbit attacked a 74-year old woman in her back yard while she was hanging up her laundry. The the hysterical hare launched itself at the old woman, and while it didn’t exactly “nibble her bum”, it did manage to bite her foot and caused her to fall, before her husband managed to come out to battle the beast. When police arrived on the scene, they managed to subdue the beast. Unfortunately, no holy hand granades were availible at the time, so the policemen had to improvise by shooting the rodent when it tried to attacked them as well.

No lackies were harmed during the brutal encounter.

You can read the heroic tale HERE.

GameStop Sales Top $5 Billion

gamestop.jpg
The store that offers you $10 for a game they’ll sell for $40. The store that asks you buy a strategy guide and a subscription to GameInformer with every purchase. The store that berates you for not pre-ordering.

They took in $5 Billion last year.

I want you to think about that the next time that pimply pencilneck clerk tries to sell you an opened game at full price.

GameFly crippled by lack of Xbox 360 games

gf360.jpgI’ve been a loyal GameFly subscriber for several years now. I love being able to try out something new without spending $50 or putting up with ill-tempered EBGameShlub employees. It’s made me a better gamer, and more open-minded.

So, it’s with sadness I mailed back the last game I’ll ever get from there today. You see, I have 15 Xbox 360 games in my queue. All of them have “Short Wait” or “Long Wait” next to them. I tried looking in at the full list of Xbox 360 games and of 127 titles listed, not a single one is available for rent right now. What the hell? I understand a lot of people got X-boxes for X-Mas but this is X-treme.

Then it hit me: Gamerscores. So many people are renting games to up their gamerscores that it’s rendered the service useless to a weekender like myself. I could probably leave those 15 games at the top of my queue for months and still get fed random DS games sitting at the bottom of the list. I was lucky to get Chromehounds one time, though unlucky when I fell asleep during the training level. If the best I can get is that slow moving snoozefest, my money is not being well spent.

So, I’m cancelling. Prices are still sky-high on even used 360 games; but by saving my $22 a month, I might be able to afford them. Or at least I can enter a brick-and-mortar shop and get a game in hand right away. GameFly does share the blame here though, when launch titles are still in high demand, they should be upping the stock to meet that demand, instead of letting me sit and wait for a good game.

Smallville Legends – The Oliver Queen Chronicles?

Smallville Legends - The Oliver Queen ChroniclesGreen Arrow from Smallville has his own show! Sort of. But it’s very strangely animated. And episodes are only about 2 to 4 minutes long. AND they’re only available on “Sprint TV’s mobile video service.” But don’t worry! Once all of the 6 episodes have ‘aired,’ they’ll be available on the CW’s website, starting February 22nd. You can even watch the official trailer for the show HERE, and catch a glimpse of the painfully odd animation in action.

If the video’s not at that link anymore by the time you read this, go to the Smallville main site, and look under the main picture. Of the four smaller boxes lined up underneath, it should be the one on the right, titled “Smallville Legends.”

As for me, while I have no intention of paying anyone, ever, to see this; that trailer remains a sight to behold. As annoying as the kid sounds in it (Waaa! I don’t want a stupid bow and arrow! Waaaaa!), the visuals alone strike me as too strangely disjointed for anyone to punish their senses with for 2 to 4 minutes. So obviously, if I still remember this a month from now, like a good rubbernecker, I’ll totally be checking it out online when I get the chance.

Celebrate Christmas Eve With Some TV

It’s Christmas Eve, and what better time to watch an old Christmas special, like this Claymation Christmas CLASSIC:

You can find a plethora of Christmas specials like this, all in their entirety ALL RIGHT HERE, from It’s A Wonderful Life, to the stop-motion classic Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer, to less obvious selections like The Office’s recent Christmas episode, or even the Star Wars Holiday Special (Part 1, and Part 2). It’s Christmas everybody, so even if you don’t celebrate it, ’tis definitely the season to watch a video of Chewbacca celebrating it.
