Stuff You Want for the week of 2011.08.01

Another slow week on releases. Looks like we have a new Bleach game for the PS3 and a couple of special edition Saints Row offerings collecting the first and second games. Not much more than that, but be sure to take a look for yourself after the jump and click through to anything you want to purchase to help the site out. Until next week!

Maximum Letdown: 8 Eyes (NES)

8 Eyes, developed by Thinking Rabbit and published by Taxan, can best be described as the lovechild of Mega Man and Castlevania. Just like Mega Man, you select stages and have to proceed in a certain order, while it’s graphics and gameplay are vaguely reminiscent of Castlevania. However, it can’t do either right, and is better off being given a $10 million bribe to remain out of all out lives.

SDCC 2011: Lost “LOST” clip of Jacob and Man In Black

San Diego ComiCon is full of surprises. Con-favorite show LOST always had a huge panel with exclusive clips shown every year. The show ended last May, but for some reason, there is still another clip for this year.

Watch above as a moment from the first season plays out with Jacob and his brother, the Man In Black, looking on to discuss the castaways ultimate fate. Its directed by series regular Jack Bender with Mark Pellegrino and Titus Welliver reprising their roles.

This clip was presented at SDCC by Executive Producers Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse, who did hold a “One Year Later” panel. Hit fix has a full description of their comments and answers to fans.

Barry’s story needs to be told…

SDCC 2011: Preview Night – MOTU Classics

I hopped pretty quickly on the news about the Wind Raider being the MOTU Classics vehicle for 2011, but there were a several other items on display that I never saw until today. Among these items are some adorable Super Hero Squad-style MOTU figures, a new She-Ra and more.

Read on after the jump for the run down.

Transformers Generations will continue in November 2011

A great deal of concern has been voiced in the Transformers fandom about the fate of the Generations line after the Dark of the Moon toy line runs its course and the Transformers Prime toy line gets kicked off at the end of the year. Online retailer, Kapow Toys checked in with Full Metal Hero to let us all know that they just received solicitations for a new wave of Generations figures along with a case breakdown for the new wave.

The case will include:
2x Wheeljack
1x Sergeant Kup
1x Warpath
2x Black Shadow
2x Junkion

Black Shadow is expected to be a Thunderwing repaint with a newly tooled head. We heard of this based on the instructions included with Thunderwing. I believe we heard that there were three heads created for the Junkion mold. One was for Wreck-Gar, another for the Japanese exclusive E-Hobby set and the third was set for an North American release. It can be expected that this Junkion will have the aforementioned third head.

Leo’s Live Action Akira Movie has a Writer and a Director

You remember like a decade ago when Leonardo DiCaprio was going to be in a live action Akira movie?

Leonardo DiCaprio is Akira

Well that never really happened, and a few days ago it was reported that the movie was officially shelved. But wait! Turns out that was premature! The movie lives on! Hollywood Reporter reveals that the movie now has a director and writer!

The movie’s director will be Jaume Collet-Serra. Is he any good? No idea. Haven’t seen any of his movies… but you have if you’ve seen Unknown, Orphan or House of Wax!

The script will be adapted by Steve Kloves, who is best known for adapting the Harry Potter books into a number of movies of varying quality. Lots of bitching going on about what people hear about changes that may take place. I love the Akira manga and movie myself, but both are … kind of nonsense. Let’s just wait and see how it turns out before saying it would be better as a mess of scenes with a confusing incomplete story. You can’t very well call yourself a fan of the Akira anime movie and say you wouldn’t want to see a movie that deviates too much from the source material.

Leo will not likely be starring in the film, but he will be producing. The movie is said to take place in New York instead of Neo Tokyo, and casting rumours throughout the years have included Joseph Gordon Levitt, Justin Timberlake, Robert Pattinson, James Franco and Keanu Reeves. If I had more time to kill, I’d photoshop photos of all of them too…

Stay tuned for more on this movie as it will no doubt go through 3 more directors and get shelved for another 5 years only to be released some time after James Cameron’s Gunnm adaptation…

Check out a trailer for the American Akira below…

Famicom Dojo Podcast: A History of Console Region Locking

Region locking is nothing new. It hasn’t taken many different forms, but wasn’t always deliberate either. Many handhelds were exempt from this scheme for the longest time (including the Game Boy and DS series), but with time all things change. SeanOrange and Vinnk discuss the very state of affairs that necessitates the existence of organizations like Operation Rainfall, how they came to be, and where they might go from here.
