Marve Legends Exclusive Wal-mart Wave (Giant-man) Update

Marvel LegendsA press release went out a couple weeks ago, ‘announcing’ pretty much what we already know about this exclusive wave that will be hitting Wal-mart in the first days of the upcoming month. However, an update was sent out to make a clarification about just how many figures are needed to get a full Giant-man. For those unaware, recent waves of Marvel Legends have had individual figures packaged with a piece to a much larger figure. This exclusive wave’s build-a-figure is Giant-man.

I wanted to clarify an oversight on the press release that was sent last week. Please note that you must collect 10 figures to build Giant Man (one of these figures is a variant). The variants in this assortment will not be as hard to come by as other Marvel Legends assortments.

As a reminder, the variants will be Sentry with a full beard (regular is clean shaven) and Age Of Apocalypse Wolverine with a disfigured head. I do not know of any other variants for this wave.

Why Sony Needs the PS2 to stay above $99

ps2.jpgAs noted earlier today the Playstation 2 is dropping twenty dollars to $129.99.

And we ask, why didn’t they go all the way to $99? I think I know why. The PS3.

Every pundit, analyst, and scholar and predicted the pricetag of Sony’s third home game console to be anywhere between “very expensive” to “EXTREMELY expensive.” Sony knows it will have to east some loss on hardware, especially if they want to stay price competitive with the Xbox 360, or even competitive with a high end gaming PC.

Microsoft was able to afford a consistent loss on the first Xbox because they have a software department that pulls in quite a bit of money. Sony’s portable electronics empire it built in the 80s has been toppled by Apple’s iPod, and their home theater department doesn’t exactly dominate the market either. The most successful arm of the Sony machine is gaming, specifically the PS2.

By still being able to scratch a profit off this 5-year old console, they’re suring up a warchest to keep them stable for the coming Playstation 3 launch. This is not to say Sony will be able to afford to get a new box out the door for $299 or even $399, but it will substantially help them to continue selling the PS2 for the highest price the market will bear. If theres still people out there who don’t own a PS2 and are willing to drop $129 on it, then thats a few more dollars Sony can roll over into padding out a PS3 launch.

Sony really can’t afford to lose the market to Microsoft. And honestly, we all know that that Sony has had some of the best developers working on their systems in the past decade. So the only real deciding factor in the Xbox 360 challenge is price. Every penny will count.

Splinter Cell – Out Of Context

splintercell.jpgGamespy’s review of Splinter Cell Essentials is a measly 2 out of 5. So why is Ubisoft running ad saying Gamespy liked it?
VGM has filed gathered up all the fact and the investigations and put them in one big article for your reading pleasure.

Jet Blue website has a strange Family Guy easter egg

pbjt.jpgThis internet oddity come straight off Digg.
Its real easy, just go to Jet Blue, then select a destination city. Hold the shift key and type “PBJ” on your keyboard. A little window will pop up.
Why? Who the heck knows. Webmaster must be an FG fan or something.

The Horrors Of Zelda

zeldawand.jpgWe’ve all heard about this nasty CDi games. EGM seems obsessed with bringing them up in nearly every issue. Well now some kindly soul has uploaded videos of the introduction and ending cutscenes from both games. Watch if you dare…

Peter Moore spills his guts to 1Up

If you’ve got 20 minutes, a broadband connection, and a hankerin’ to see what Moore has to say its worth watching. He doesn’t stay on message as much as the infamous EGM interview. If you don’t have the time, I’ll bulletpoint some of the important bits…

1/6th Scale Battlestar Gallactica figures announced

Battlestar Galactica The Battlestar Gallactica merchandise is finally starting to make its way to the consumers. Figures.com is reporting that Majestic Studios will be releasing the first two figures in a series. This first wave will include Captain Lee Adama aka Apollo and the Cylon Centurion. They will make their debut at the San Diego Comic Con and will make their way to stores shortly thereafter. Apollo will stand 12 inches tall while the Centurion will be 13 1/2 inches tall to keep in scale.

Apollo will be sporting his flight fatigues including helmet and interchangeable hands (one set with gloves on) and a blaster. Creative packaging is said to be happening in addition to the decision for the next figure being decided based on fan response. It will either be the sultry Number Six or Number 8 aka Boomer.

An announcement about a San Diego Comic Con exlusive is also said to be coming soon.

GI Joe Collectors’ Convention Set for 2006: Overview

GIJoeCCLogo[2006.04.09 10:48 EST]Its a bit annoying how MasterCollector trickles information to the fans about convention exclusives. I understand the reason is to build up the hype, but it makes it hard to keep track with news posts about prior exclusives from the set being months ago and most likely in archives on most sites. I thought I would take this opportunity to do an overview of what has been announced thus far for the 3.75″ Exclusive Convention Set. The theme for the set is: “Cobra’s Most Wanted: Mercenaries!”

Skull Squad TrooperFirst announced March 24, 2006 is the Skull Squad Trooper. Six Skull Squad Troopers will be included in the set. Each features a removeable helmet emblazoned with the SKull Squad logo, along with weapons and I assume a stand.

Major BluddAnnounced on March 29, 2006, the Skull Squad will be led into battle by none other than Major Bludd (which wasn’t much of a surprise considering the Skull Squad logo features an eyepatch). The Major comes with a rifle and submachine gun. The rifle has a folding bi-pod where the sub-machine gun has a folding stock. The figure’s color scheme will also compliment that of the Skull Squad Troopers.

Coil TrooperApril 4th, 2006 brought us the Coil Trooper. Six Coil Troopers will be included in the set, similar to the Skull Squad Troopers. Each Coil Trooper appears to come with a rifle, machine gun and stand.

OverlordOverlord, leader of the Coil Troopers, was revealed April 7th, 2006. He is an entirely new tooling due to the absence of the original mold. An original head was used though for the new tooling in order to maintain that ‘vintage look’. He appears to come with a removeable helmet with the Coil Trooper logo on it, an uzi and removeable claws on his forearms.

There is still at least one more announcement to be made for the set, so when that is made, which should be soon, I will update this post so everything is all in one place.

[UDPATE – 2006.04.11]
2006 Collectors Convention Exclusive Boxart TeaserMasterCollector has updated their site with the boxart for the Exclusive Convention Set. The last figure, however, is just a sillouette for now. There is a contest to see who can guess the identity of the last figure for all the Collectors’ Club Members. They are really trying to hype up whoever this last figure is. Whoever it is, they seem to be an excellent marksman. More as it comes…

[UPDATE – 2006.04.17]
2006 Collectors Convention Exclusive Cobra Mortal
The final figure has been revealed! Cobra Mortal will be the last figure to be added to the collectors’ set. He features vac-metallized armor, his special crossbow and a rifle. You can view his tech spec here.

We’ve also been given the bonus of seeing the full box art showing the revealed Cobra Mortal.
