Famicom Dojo for the Holidays

Have you been putting off getting a Famicom Dojo Season 1 DVD? Fear not, for we have carefully formulated two good and very convincing reasons why now is the time to act:

1) The Season 1 set has been marked down to an extremely affordable $12.95 for the holiday season, great for that stocking stuffer you’ve been looking to get (even if it’s just for yourself).

2) Also, you can help Powet! Proceeds for DVD sales go directly into the Famicom Dojo coffers for great episodes, but when you buy through our Amazon.com link you’ll be giving Powet.TV a little scratch as well. Isn’t that nice? Isn’t nice what this season is all about?

Check out details over on FamicomDojo.TV, or just do what your heart wants and order now! (Orders should be placed by 12/18/2009 to make sure you get your copy by Christmas.)

Original X-Men, X-Factor and 90’s X-Men finally get the Minimate treatment

Action Figure Express will be offering up two exclusive box sets of Marvel Minimates soon. A silver age X-Men box set and an original X-Factor team box set. The Angel for both teams will actually be available in an upcoming wave of Marvel Minimates as both the regular figure and the chase for that wave. Marvel Minimates wave 34 was also announced and paying big respect to the 90’s X-Men in the form of Rogue, Beast, Jean Grey and Cyclops. Also in the wave is Jean as the Black Queen with Selene, the Black Queen as the variant. The troop builder figure (figure packaged with the chase figure and regular version of the chase) will be a Hellfire Guard.

Whats the most important revelation of Marvel Minimate Wave 34 and these box sets? A wave with no Wolverine or Spiderman!

Akira Yamaoka Jumps Konami Ship?

akira_yamaokaAccording to gaming site Aeropause, and followed up on Resident Evil/Silent Hill fansite The Horror is Alive, word has it that long-time Konami composer Akira Yamaoka has left the big-name game publisher after 16 years of dedicated duty.

Yamaoka is most well known for his work done for the Silent Hill series of games, having almost single-handedly worked on everything from the first game right up to the yet-released re-make ‘Shattered Memories’. Combining haunting ambient melodies with soft rock tunes, Yamaoka has been praised for helping make the survival-horror series what it is today. He is also credited with having worked on the soundtracks to Gradius III & IV, Contra: Shattered Solider, and Rumble Roses.

One can only hope that this is just heavy rumor, as no official word from Konami has been released thus far, though this could be in an attempt to smooth things over. Speaking as a avid fan of the Silent Hill series, I can say with certainty that if these rumor do indeed prove true, then Konami has lost one of their pinnacle members, as well as the last remaining key of Team Silent. That is a truly devastating thing to think about for this little fan.

Prince of Persia ‘Forgotten Sands’ Uncovered

Prince of Persia 4 II

…but should they have stayed hidden?

Resurrecting the Sands of Time series that inspired the upcoming Jerry Bruckheimer film, Ubisoft announced today that their next installment will not be a follow-up to the “new” Prince of Persia series. This change-up shouldn’t be much of a surprise, since it was reported almost two months ago that the name had been reserved for “game-related use”.

While a tie-in makes sense fiscally, will gamers (literally) buy it?

First glimpse of War Machine from Iron Man 2

News comes via io9.com that the latest issue of Previews shows an ad for Diamond Select Toys’ Marvel Select Iron Man 2 War Machine armor. The ad only shows a sillouette, but there is a zoomed in view of the head (shown above) that is not blacked out. We can pretty much see Don Cheadle’s likeness in the War Machine helmet. This is sure to be just the first of hype for the upcoming movie set to be released on May 7, 2010.

Big Lob makes his move to GI JOE Club!

Big_Lob Big Lob, a character depicted in the infamous 1987 animated G.I. Joe: The Movie, is finally arriving in action figure form. The crowd goes bananas!

He was a character that spoke in sports metaphors and gave play by plays of his every move. Big Lob was never intended to be a toy and was invented solely for use in the movie. His name has popped up a few times in comic stories since then, but his only meaningful appearance was as a new recruit in the war on Cobra-La.

The GIJOE Collector Club is offering its members the figure as a free perk, provided their membership remain active by March 16, 2010.

While there have been many advances in the design and technology of 3.75 inch figures in the past 20 years, I have to give credit for assembling Big Lob using vintage tooling. Yes, that belt line has a mighty O-Ring beneath it, meaning he’ll fit in with any other Rawhides you’ve got in your collection.
