SDCC 2010: DST expands Battle Beast line

Diamond Select Toys has been doing a series of Crocodile Battle Beasts built around the mini-mate body as convention exclusives over the past year, each one sporting different accessories and color scheme. ToyNewsInternational snapped some pics (mirrored below) of what appears to be brand new Battle Beasts. It doesn’t look like these are built on the mini-mate body at all, in fact, I question their articulation. It looks like there is a rhino, octopus, monkey, iguana and a new crocodile.

There is no real indication of size or scale in the pictures, but there is placard stating they will be in stores in 2011 and retail for $14.99. Its not clear if that is individually or sold as a set. For their sake, I hope they are sold as a set because one figure with that amount of articulation for that price is a real tough sale for many collectors. And if I may say so the rhino and octopus are ADORABLE! I think I may have found a replacement line for the discontinued Robot Heroes I was collecting.

Adorable mirrored images after the jump!

SDCC 2010: Four Horsemen – Symbiotech Pics, New Art Print

The Four Horsemen have really brought a great showing to SDCC 2010 with prototypes of their Symbiotech line, Outer Space Men line, and more. They have a beautiful art print for sale showcasing many of their long time properties that have appeared in their annual FANtastic Exclusive polls. The print is on sale at their booth and their online store, StoreHorsemen.com. It was done by FANEx member, Baena, who has done other art commissions for the 4H properties. Click the image above to see the full poster in all its glory!

Symbiotech_Protos

Action Figure Insider snapped this great picture of the Symbiotech prototypes on display including a brand new pair called Bipedix and Bipedon on the right. Guanos and Sonos are on the left. If you look at the top middle of the picture, you will see an unpainted prototype. Look closer and you will note that is Tygos riding in some form of vehicle made of Tygolith’s armor! Now, thats pretty darn cool!

[UPDATE – Crazy] I want to point out the gallery over at Michael Crawford’s site. It has some fantastic pictures of what the Horsemen had on display including the Tygos riding the combined parts vehicle from Tygolith. That can be seen here.

Masterpiece Rodimus Prime concept art

Masterpiece_Rodimus_Concept

TFW2005 is reporting that the long rumored Masterpiece Rodimus will in fact be Rodimus Prime (Convoy) and not just Hot Rod. They offered up some concept art to back up the claim courtesy of 2005 member, S250.

I’d be happy with a masterpiece Winebago. Rodimus Prime doesn’t get enough love in my book.
Can anyone offer anything meanings behind the japanese text in the image?

Jackass 3D Is Coming

jackass3D
“We’re going to take the same 3D technology James Cameron used in AVATAR and stick it up Steve O’s butt. We’re taking stupid to a whole new dimension.” -Johnny Knoxville.

MTV plans on showing the first footage at ComiCon this weekend. At last, after countless goofy kids movies, we’ll get justification for 3D digital cinema.

Unlike previous Jackass movies, this one was shot largely on sets and private properties, so expect less on the street shocks like Night Pandas or Party Boy. Also a departure: no beer. Miller High Life was the proud sponsor of the first film, but as Steve-O hasn’t had a drink in 2 years, the entire cast stayed sober in support. This has strangely resulted in more injuries than on previous movies.

Expect vomit, penises, and Bunny The Lifeguard to pop out of the movie screen on October 15, 2010.

PowetToys: Transformers Animated Blackout

Blackoutanimated
Not much to say here. I went to Botcon and he sold out in the first 20 minutes. I regretted not getting him, so I ordered him online as soon as I got home.

I don’t order toys online much these days, but boy am I glad I did in this case.

Nickelodeon announces The Legend of Korra; sequel to the Last Airbender series

Nickelodeon has announced a new series to air in 2011 based on the mythology of their very popular Avatar: The Last Airbender series. Here is the description given in the announcement:

The Legend of Korra takes place 70 years after the events of Avatar: The Last Airbender and follows the adventures of the Avatar after Aang – a passionate, rebellious, and fearless teenaged girl from the Southern Water Tribe named Korra. With three of the four elements under her belt (Earth, Water, and Fire), Korra seeks to master the final element, Air. Her quest leads her to the epicenter of the modern “Avatar” world, Republic City – a metropolis that is fueled by steampunk technology. It is a virtual melting pot where benders and non-benders from all nations live and thrive. However, Korra discovers that Republic City is plagued by crime as well as a growing anti-bending revolution that threatens to rip it apart. Under the tutelage of Aang’s son, Tenzin, Korra begins her airbending training while dealing with the dangers at large.

I haven’t seen the live-action movie that is out right now, but I loved every minute of the animated series and I am delighted to hear that the narrative will continue.

Full press release after the jump.

Four Horsemen unveil Symbiotech Tygos and Tygolith

In the recent issue of ToyFare magazine, it was announced that the secret line that the Four Horsemen were putting together, in addition to The Outer Space Men, was in fact their homemade brand Symbiotech. One of many home grown properties that the group has developed, Symbiotech has been in the voting for their annual FANtastic Exclusive event since the start. The original pitch in the FANEx polls for the line was as follows:

Symbiotech is a dual scaled, beast/rider property where the connection between the two characters lies in their Sybiotech armor. When the larger beasts don Symbiotech armor, the smaller riders gain the ability to bond with the great beasts in order to become one destructive battle machine. As mentioned before, Symbiotech would be a dual-scaled line where the riders would be around three inches tall, and the beasts would be around eight inches tall. Each character would feature moderate articulation and character specific armor and weapons.

More info (and pictures) after the jump.
