Lost Classics: Lucky and Wild (Arcade)

This is why I love arcade games from the 85 – 95 period. One look at a cabinet like this, and it isn’t hard to see what inspired this game. Modeled after buddy cop flicks like Tango and Cash, Starsky and Hutch, and Miami Vice, Lucky and Wild is an on-rails shooter/racing hybrid. You set out to catch a series of drug dealers by driving and shooting at them. The cabinet has a steering wheel and two guns attached. The idea is that player one uses the wheel and first gun while player 2 uses the second gun. Of course there are several unofficial ways to play the game as well, either increasing or decreasing the difficulty. Player two can use player one’s gun (thus saving quarters), player two can use both guns (thus freeing player one for driving), or a player can use player two’s gun while player two uses player one’s gun. It’s not the end-all of arcade games, but it was a pretty clever concept, one that could use a revisit in this age of motion capture gameplay.

A good reason not to buy Star Wars on Blu-Ray

Darth Vader screaming No - Star Wars Episode III - Rise of the Sith

George Lucas, creator of three of history’s all time favourite science fiction movies, and enemy of film history for his treatment of those same movies, has done it again. With the upcoming release of the three good Star Wars movies and three bad Star Wars movies on Blu-Ray there has been much speculation about the changes, but one change has now been confirmed by the New York Times. In the climactic scene in Return of the Jedi where Darth Vader confronts the Emperor, the most hated line from the most hated movie of the most hated Star Wars trilogy has been added. Darth Vader screams “Nooooooooo!” to clarify his previously nebulous feelings on the Emperor’s torturing of his son.

Check out a clip of the scene below:

Good Journey: A Masters Of The Universe Commentary Track

The wait is over! Zac, Crazy, aDam, and Sean narrate the 1987 motion picture classic: Masters of The Universe. Behavior that would get them kicked out of a theater is perfectly acceptable in the home.
In addition to silly comments about the movie’s performances and special effects, we do also add some historical insights and try to relate the film to its origins and current Masters Of The Universe Classics toy line. Also, there is a Pig Boy.

Halo 4 Begins “The Reclaimer Trilogy”

Franchise director Frank O’Conner says every comic, book, and additional content released around Halo over the last 4 years has been building up to this.

“Reclaimer” is a term used by 343 Guily Spark in the original game, “Halo: Combat Evolved.” Master Chief John 117 was charged with activating the Halo super weapon, but its vague use in the series may imply John specifically or any human or Forerunner who manipulated a Halo, The Ark, or a Shield World. This might sound all like gibberish to anyone who didn’t play Halo, and I can assure you its almost gibberish to me, and I’ve played all the games multiple times.

In any case, the concepts seen in the teaser seem to imply a lot more Forerunner structures and new planets will be explored in the new trilogy. Hopefully we’ve seen the last of the Flood, though. And the last of the Brutes. I could do without Skirmishers as well. You know what, lets just halo Halo 4 with all Hunters and Grunts! Yeah!

Below, hear some of the creators at 343 Industries talk about taking Halo into future. [Read the rest of this entry…]

Famicom Dojo Podcast: Should Nintendo Go Third Party?

In a word, no, but don’t worry: we’ll totally qualify that position. Nintendo’s financial troubles in 2011, and initially slow sales of the 3DS, followed by its steep price cut have renewed perennial calls for the company to forego the hardware market and release its titles on other platforms. SeanOrange and Vinnk discuss whether or not such a move would be vialbe for Nintendo, and if the company is leaving a lot of money on the table by not embracing the iOS market.
