The new theatrical trailer for the Prince of Persia movie has been released on YouTube for the world to see. The trailer looks pretty good; similar to Pirates of the Caribbean in terms of special effects and overall-feel. What I’m digging is the subtle influences from the game that they actually have put into the movie, such as honest-to-god wall jumping, and the activation of the Dagger of Time making the Prince (Jake Gyllenhaal) look something akin to the Dark Prince’s form from “Prince of Persia: The Two Thrones“. If the entire movie has such influences and easter eggs that were prominant in the games, there might actually be hope for the film.

Yesterday marked the end of an era in free website hosting. Geocities, hosted by Yahoo, officially closed its doors to its hostees after 15 years in business – 10 of which were under Yahoo’s rule.
We have enjoyed hosting web sites created by Yahoo! users all over the world, and we’re proud of the community you’ve built.
However, we have decided to focus on helping our customers explore and build relationships online in other ways. Beginning on October 26, 2009, you can no longer use GeoCities to maintain a free presence online —
It appears users of GeocitiesPlus accounts still are allowed to have their websites up, but can no long access their files, and can supposedly upgrade to Yahoo Web Hosting for free for 5 years. Yahoo now encourages all its former users to switch to its Web Hosting to enjoy its services, for a fee of course.
Of course, who on the internet hadn’t built a crappy little website using Geocities at some point in the past? Nicknamed “Geoshitties” for its small storage capacity and bombardment of ad placement (particularly after Yahoo took over), the free-site provider non-the-less was a intricate part of the internet in the later 1990’s, along with fellow free-provider Angelfire. Truly, the internet has lost one of its key figureheads.

On a somber note, Captain. Lou Albano, known for work in the older WWF, but famous for his portrayal of Mario in the Super Mario Bros. Super Show, has passed away at the age of 76 in his Mount Vernon home.

Since the alphabet is the building block of our language, the Powet Alphabet is the building block of what makes us geeks.
Back in the gaming days of yore, the multiple genres of video games defined what type of gamer the person playing would be. You had your RPG gamers, your FPS gamers, your sidescrolling-adventure gamers, and your sports gamers, to name a few. (Though the sports gamers are considered a completely separate category from the rest and its fans are often rejected as being gamers at all. You know what I’m talking about) There was also the highly competitive fighting gamer. Despite one-on-one fighting games existing prior to its release, Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter helped shape the genre into a more standardized style and gained it a following. It also found a niche in the arcade scene, and soon arcades across the nation were featuring fighting games left and right. However, MK and SF couldn’t carry the genre alone. Games like Primal Rage and NightWarriors soon popped up to satisfy the masses. Midway saw the goldmine that Mortal Kombat had brought in, and decided to try another fighting game in order to bank on the growing success. This game was Killer Instinct.

Today marks the 10th anniversary of the release of the Sega Dreamcast on 9/9/1999 – the very first released of the sixth generation of gaming consoles. As the last console developed by Sega, we’ve got a bit of a tribute to the ill-fated awesomeness that was the Dreamcast.
