Seriously Sean? No Metroid Prime?
My list would probably have been:
Metroid Prime Trilogy
Eternal Darkness
Bioshock
Beyond Good and Evil
Star Wars: KOTOR

Entertaining, I still need to play Eternal Darkness personally.
Do not have the others, but my brothers have played through 4 out of the 5.
This list is not at all what I’d expect from a list of “Adventure games.”
I hear the term and think Sam & Max and Monkey Island, or Hugo.

It’s true, however the adventure game is a dying art form, so I had to look for inspiration where I got it. Truth be told, the list sort of asserted itself, and I had to find a justification for it.
As for Metroid Prime, that is a fabulous question. It is without a doubt a wonderful game, and one of the best for the GameCube. It might be fair to say that ODST knocked it out of the running.
Metroid Prime was very adventure-y, especially if you made the point of reading everything available for you to scan. And even though it was styled like an FPS, it didn’t really drive the action. You had the morphball levels and such to break it up.
It was certainly a contender. I think if anything — if I had to justify the decision — it just fell short on the replayability/serialization scale. It’s definitely #6, though, without question.

I think most might consider these “action/adventure” games rather than invoke thoughts of lucasarts text based stuff.
I personally put Metroid Prime on my list of favorite game of all time, since it will scratch the itch of almost any game genre you can think of: platforming, shooting, role playing, text, puzzles, racing, etc. Hell all its missing is rhythm.
But everyone’s 5 is gonna be different I guess!
