Fox’s X-Men Live action show has a title, although it may be changed by the time it airs. The show’s tentative title is called “Gifted”. Producer Lauren Shuler-Donner tweeted this photo of the show’s cast while revealing the title. The show follows a family that joins up with a mutant underground after discovering that the family’s children have mutant powers. The show seeks to tie into the larder X-men movieverse, as several familiar names from the comics have been cast such as Thunderbird, Blink and Polaris. As of now, there is no primere date set for the show.
Patrick Stewart has announced that Logan will be the last X-Men movie he will appear as Professor Charles Xavier.
EW.com reports that the actor made the announcement on an SiriusXM Radio Town Hall, in which he appeared with the director of the film James Mangold and Wolverine actor, Hugh Jackman, who has repeatedly said that this will be his last film for the franchise as well.
Stewart is quoted as saying:
“A week ago, Friday night in Berlin, the three of us sat, watching the movie,” said Stewart. “And I was so moved by it, much more moved than I had been the first time of seeing it. Maybe it was the company of these two guys, but the movie ended and — this is an admission — but at one point [Hugh] reached out, and he took my hand in those last few minutes, and I saw him go [mimes wiping a tear from his eye] like this, and then I realized I had just done the same thing. Then, the movie ended… and we were going to be taken up on stage, but not until the credits were over. So, we had some time to sit there and, as I sat there I realized there will never be a better, a more perfect, a more sensitive, emotional, and beautiful way of saying au revoir to Charles Xavier than this movie. So, I told [Hugh] that same evening, ‘I’m done too. It’s all over.’”
Since All-New Marvel had been announced, many fans feared that the X-men books were being thrown towards the wayside in favor of Disney-approved heroes, and that the Inhumans were taking the place of mutants as the ‘hated and feared’ superpowered minority of the Marvel Universe. Happily, these fears seem to be unfounded. For the past few weeks, Marvel has been hinting at a ‘Resurrexion’ for the X-men books. A teaser went out two weeks ago, and last week, several new books were revealed, each of which being a throwback of sorts to the past. However, they leave some interesting questions in their wake, especially since the creative teams behind each book have yet to be revealed.
Here’s our first look at Hugh Jackman’s last outing as Wolverine. While it looks somewhat inspired by the Old Man Logan storyline, it looks like most of its inspiration comes from Clint Eastwood westerns and Mad Max. It’s definitely a different take on the superhero genre and could be fitting for Wolverine’s last hurrah. We also get a glimpse of Patrick Stewart as Charles Xavier, Boyd Holbrook as villain Donald Pierce, and a little girl that some believe could be X-23. Check it out and tell us what you think.
Very little has been revealed about the third solo Wolverine movie, save that it will be Hugh Jackman’s last time portraying the character, Patrick Stewart will be in it as Charles Xavier (in what could be his last time playing as the character), and its protagonist could be Mr. Sinister. Howsoever, it seems like we finally have a release date, along with a name change. Also, a page from the script was posted online by director James Mangold hints at what direction the film will take. Although Marvel’s Most Wanted and Agent Carter have been cancelled, Marvel is on a roll with several new television series. Legion is already on its way to FX, while Cloak and Dagger was announced this past April. While Agent Carter and Marvel’s Most Wanted have been canceled, next year will see at least one new Marvel character hit the small screen. An 8 episode season of the X-men spinoff Legion has been ordered by FX, and it will be produced as a joint effort between Fox and Marvel Studios. With showrunner Noah Hawley (Fargo) at the helm, Legion stars Downton Abbey’s Dan Stevens as the title character, who in the comics is the illegitimate son of professor Charles Xavier. He’s a mutant with multiple personality disorder, and each personality has it’s own power. Longtime Marvel fans know he’s responsible for not one, but two Alternate realities, the Age of Apocalypse, and the Age of X. It remains to be seen how this is incorporated in the show. The status of Marvel and Fox’s other show, Hellfire, is up in the air as it’s two showrunners, Evan Katz and Manny Coto departed to work on 24 Legacy.
