Multiplenews outlets are reporting that Marvel is planning a successor to Brian Michael Bendis and Steve McNiven’s Civil War storyline from 2006. A product of the company’s semi annual editorial retreat where storylines are planned out for years to come, Civil War 2 will apparently pit Iron Man against Captain Marvel and feature the death of a hero, as so many of these comic events now do.
A mysterious new Marvel character comes to the attention of the world, one who has the power to calculate the outcome of future events with a high degree of accuracy,” according to the synopsis. “This predictive power divides the Marvel heroes on how best to capitalize on this aggregated information, with Captain Marvel leading the charge to profile future crimes and attacks before they occur, and Iron Man adopting the position that the punishment cannot come before the crime.
Civil War 2 kicks off in May. Not so coincidentally, Marvel’s feature film, Captain America: Civil War, will be coming to theaters that same month.
I know what you are thinking. Man-Thing? How on earth is he going to make this connection?
I’ll be honest. I had to do some research when I came home after seeing Iron Man 3. There was a scene that piqued my curiosity. Do you know the scene I’m talking about?
The Mandarin (Ben Kingsley) has taken aim at Tony Stark (Robert Downey, Jr.). How will he react after the events seen in The Avengers? Iron Man 3 is set to open in theaters May 3, 2013.
Here it is. The first trailer for Iron Man 3 is up as the hype train continues to countdown to May 3rd, 2013.
We can see in the trailer that the events in the movie happen after The Avengers. We see a new armor enter the fray that looks like the Iron Patriot armor we saw Norman Osborn sporting in The Dark Avengers, though I have read that it is being called the ‘Detroit Steel’ armor. And finally The Mandarin steps forward. In the first movie, when Tony was kidnapped, it was by a terrorist organization called the ‘Ten Rings’. It was long believed that this was a reference to the Mandarin and given how he is represented in this trailer, that seems consistent.
Marvel.com has revealed the first movie poster for the forthcoming Iron Man 3 film. Its pretty generic and could honestly be the movie poster for any Iron Man movie. There doesn’t seem to be anything plot specific about this. This is more of a way to begin the hype train that Marvel has been so good at fostering with their world-building movies.
Iron Man 3 will hit theaters May 3, 2013.
Thor: The Dark World is due November 8, 2013.
Captain America: Winter Soldier is coming April 4, 2014.
Guardians of the Galaxy hits August 1, 2014.
The Avengers sequel is slated for May 1, 2015.
Ant-Man is coming our way on November 6, 2015.
Marvel has clearly been busy making things for us to buy in mass quantities.
