Ninja Turtles film pre-production shut down by studio, release date delayed

According to the Hollywood Reporter, pre-production has been shut down on the Ninja Turtles movie reboot. Staff involved with pre-production have been temporarily let go. The movie, itself, has not been cancelled, but has been moved out from December 2013 to a May 2014 release. A weak script is said to be the problem.

Considering the fan outcry that resulted when the revelation surfaced the Turtles would be aliens in this film, I cannot make myself seem surprised by this. It should be stressed that this has nothing to do with that fan outcry, but working with such a foreign concept to such an established brand could not come without it’s own challenges. Not to mention the stigma associated with Michael Bay and reboots, as his company, Platinum Dunes, is set to be producing the film.

This is the third film Paramount has delayed for various reasons. GI Joe: Retaliation and World War Z were both recently pushed out. The TMNT franchise was acquired by Nickelodeon in October of 2009. Nickelodeon and Paramount are both subsidiaries of giant media umbrella corporation, Viacom. The film was set to reinvigorate Nickelodeon after poor recent ratings. All parties involved still hope to accomplish that in May 2014.

If you collect toys, you should absolutely know of the Four Horsemen. You should also have heard of the Four Horsemen’s FANtastic Exclusive endeavor and the property it spawned, The Seventh Kingdom. In today’s article, we are going to draw some parallels between the properties. Read on after the jump to learn more!

Teenage Alien Ninja Turtles?

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - Raph The Space Cadet

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are defined by 4 key characteristics, as their name implies. They’re teenagers, meaning they are aged between 13 and 19 earth years old. They’re mutants, meaning their origin is that they have mutated DNA, mostly likely to add DNA from one organism into another. They’re ninja, meaning they were trained in Japanese martial arts. Finally they’re turtles, meaning they’re either turtles mutated to be more like people, or people mutated to be more like turtles.

Michael Bay and Shia Labeouf

Enter Michael Bay, and the upcoming Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movies to be released in December 2013. In a statement made at a Nickelodeon Upfront a few days ago, he was speaking about the movie, as the producer of the film, and mentioned that they would be … aliens.

The Powet Top 5 – Most Disturbing TMNT figures

When Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles hit the toy shelves in 1989, Playmates made a name for themselves with fun and creative figures, the likes of which we had not seen since Masters of the Universe peaked three years earlier. While MOTU, in a way, tried to take itself seriously, TMNT felt no such obligation. As a result, the toy line ranged from the hilarious to the grotesque. Today, we will take a look at the top 5 most disturbing figures from that era of the line.

We will focus on the figures released between 1989 and 1993, at which point Playmates relegated the line mostly to variations of the four turtles, Bebop, Rocksteady and Shredder.

Toy Fair 2012: Playmates TMNT

Playmates has put together a surprisingly nice showing for their long time Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles license. They had a basic line of figures that matches up to the new forthcoming animated series from Nickelodeon, the new owners of the franchise. They also had a collector’s line that seemed very well received. To top it all off, Playmates had a massive new sewer playset that will be a sure hit for any kids whose parents can afford it.

IDW Infestation 2 Announced – Cthulhu Vs TMNT, D&D, Transformers, and more

IDW’s first crossover event, Infestation, was massively popular. By which I mean it sold a lot of books for the company. I’ve heard mixed reviews from fans of those other books, but I liked the Star Trek and Transformers tales enough anyway. I fully intend on buying the hardcover collection when it comes out soon.
IDW is never one to let a license opportunity go to waste, so they’re going to start Infestation 2 in January. The original book features dimension traveling zombies as the story thread holding the diverse worlds’ stories together. This volume with feature HP Lovecraft’s Old Ones. So get ready for Leonardo to cut some tentacles.
Actual story details are very slim right now, we just have the announcement from IDW. However, the creative team of Chuck Dixon and Guido Guidi have been announced for Transformers, and that book will be set in the duo’s famous “Hearts of Steel” universe. This alternate story line puts the Transformers at the dawn of the Industrial revolution and featured many popular characters a steam powered rail cars and battle ships.

Infestation 2 begins on January 25 2012 and will run weekly through April 11 2012.
