Don’t get too excited, this isn’t an actual game, more proof of concept.
An unidentified Japanese programmer made a version of Super Mario Bros thats controlled by your hand using a webcam. Watch Mario stumble through 1-1 twice before calling in for help.
Get them while you can, Nintendo fans. It appears the big N has decided to discontinue the popular wireless wavebird controller for the Gamecube (and Wii compatible). Fellow poweteer, Zac Shipley points us to this article which points to this article telling us of the sad news.
From GoNintendo.com:
I haven’t heard of any plans to offer the WaveBird Wireless Controllers in stores again (I did some checking, and we are still shipping the original Nintendo GameCube Controllers to stores). If you’re unable to find the original Nintendo GameCube Controller locally, you can still order this item from us. – Nintendo customer service rep
And yes, my sole reason for posting this was to have an excuse to make that Duck Hunt graphic. You may still find Wavebirds on Amazon.com, but prices vary.
In 1996, the Super Nintendo and Sega Genesis were on their last legs. Won over by their technical capabilities, long time publishers and developers were abandoning the 16-bit cartridge based systems in favor of new stand alone 32-bit disc based systems such as Sony Playstation and Sega Saturn. One of these publishers was Square. Before leaving Nintendo’s side however, Squaresoft joined forces with Nintendo to produce one of the best role playing games ever. Sadly, along with being the last Squaresoft product released on the Super Nintendo, this would also be the last Mario game released for the system. Even so, this game managed to push the Super Nintendo to its limits by providing cutting edge SGI rendered graphics, innovative gameplay, and a solid story line. The game starts off as any other Mario game does. Bowser kidnaps Princess Toadstool, and Mario runs off to rescue her. However, when a new enemy arrives causing chaos, things immediately spin out of control and Mario finds himself teaming up with his arch nemesis (along with a few other characters) in order to set things right.

Powet fan Mike Choi sent me this video of some of his arrangements for classic Nintendo themes. Above is Super Mario Brothers, and after the break I’ve posted 2 more.
Some new images and video of Mario Kart for the Wii have been released. Check them out on Jeux France. The video shows some very impressive half pipe stunts and we can see motorcycles as new driveable vehicles!

Sonic The Hedgehog has been the most wanted character not just for Super Smash Bros Brawl, but even going back to Super Smash Bros Melee. The second Sega became a 3rd party publisher for Nintendo, people knew it was possible. And soon Sega is publishing Sonic and Mario at the Olympics, which is fine for a fair competition. But the one wanted is to see Sonic fight Nintendo classic characters hand to hand, thus bringing to life the console wars from generations ago.
On the not-so-bright side, the Japanese date for the game has been revealed as January 24, with the US release now stating “TBD” instead the previously announced December 3rd. A delay would be uncomfortably, but not unexpected. Nintendo has a consistent track record of piling on delays to get the game RIGHT. At least we’ll have The Olympics this year.

With new Halos, Metroids, and Zeldas now released, our eyes can now safely turn toward the next big sequel this fall: Mario.
This new video from the Japanese version showcases a welcome return (with music!) from a past Mario game.
