Mortal Kombat comes out next week, but there is still more to be seen. G4TV had a trailer up for Shang Tsung gameplay, which I believe we have not seen yet. Be sure to pre-order your copy here before it comes out on April 19th!
Youtube user BigBangBlitz has stiched together 115 minutes of back to back fatalities and finishing moves from dozens of games. Included are Killer Instinct, BlazBlu, Primal Rage, Samurai Showdown, and of course the most notorious: Mortal Kombat. If you weren’t desensitized before, you will be.
A perfect video if you’re looking to kill some time (ha!).
Remember that Mortal Kombat Rebirth trailer from last year, featuring Jeri Ryan and Michael Jai White as Sonya and Jax, that made waves in the gaming community? The one that was simply a film reel and not a real teaser for a possible movie? Well, if you’ve been living under a rock in the gaming world, since then the creator of the reel (Kevin Tancharoen) gleaned enough credit with Warner Bros. for them to greenlight a web series based on his re-imagining of the Mortal Kombat series. Since the news broke in January, many new actor have signed onto roles as other characters from the series and bits and pieces of what the series will feature have been hinted at.
On April 12th, Machinima will host a live feed of director Kevin Tanchaoen and several others, including actors of the series, playing the new Mortal Kombat game, and will feature at the end the premier of the first episode of the new web series. The feed will go live from 12pm to 4pm PST with the first episode right at 4pm PST.

The new Mortal Kombat is less than a month away from its release on April 19th in the US, and despite not having officially released trailers or imagery for all the characters that will be playable in the game, some new images have been leaked that show the entire roster of the game along with the each character’s VS portrait. The image shows several characters that had been more or less “revealed” as going to be in the game, yet hadn’t had any renders released. Likewise, the new “Cyborg Sub-Zero” portrait is included, signifying him as a possible unlockable character.
A character selection screen has also been leaked in tangent with the VS portraits. Both images can be found on the Mortal Kombat Online forums, along with a collection of other leaks and information and game speculation, including info on Kenshi revealed not long ago as a DLC character, along with the titular “Lady in Red” (the character fans long ago nicknamed “Skarlett” from previous fan fame). We’ll keep you updated with any more info as it comes out, including the supposed Xbox exclusive character creator Ed Boon has been hinting towards in his twitter that will be opposite the PS3 exclusive Kratos.
Warner Bros was a solid presences at this year’s PAX East in the grandiose Expo Hall, sporting their large logo just above an equally large dragon logo that is the mainstay of the Mortal Kombat series – WB’s product through NetherRealm Studios.
I managed to mosey my way over to the collection of arcade cabinets that had been customized to accommodate the new game, due out in April. Competition was tough for spots to play the games, that had several cabinets back-to-back, and although I didn’t get to play myself and taking video of gameplay was forbidden, I managed to watch a significant amount of matches and garner information and pictures. It looks like any of our Aussie bretheren will have to import if they want to get their hands on the new Mortal Kombat coming out in April.
According to a inside source for IGN, the Australian Classification Board, which oversees all game ratings for their region, has denied classification for new Mortal Kombat reboot, and will not be allowing its sale in the country, including any previous pre-sale orders. The Board also requested prohibition of any displays for the game in local retail shops.
Warner Bro., who own NetherRealm Studios and subsequently the MK game itself, released a statement:
WBIE would not market mature content where it is not appropriate for the audience. We understand that not all content is for every audience, but there is an audience for mature gaming content and it would make more sense to have the R18+ classification in Australia. As a member of the iGEA, WBIE is reviewing all options available at this time.
With all the new media flooding the internet regarding Mortal Kombat (2011), which has a release date in April, it seems Warner Bros. (who took over intellectual property of Midway last year) has been jumping on top of the merchandise wagon. Mortal Kombat Online reports that toy manufacturers Jazwares will be releasing a line based on the upcoming Mortal Kombat game. Jazwares had also done a line of figures based of past MK games, Deception and Shaolin Monks.
No other details have been officially confirmed as of yet, though MKO reports that Multiplayer.com is sporting an order page with the above graphic, supposedly being used as references to the figures coming out. Whether this is legit or not has yet to be determined.
