The Avengers: First Teaser Trailer Online

Warning: This footage contains major spoilers for Captain America.
Joss Whedon’s big screen team up The Avengers rivals the sequel to The Dark Knight for geek buzz. And since The Dark Knight Rises has a teaser, it fits that we get one for The Avengers.

Fans who saw Captain America were treated to a preview of things to come, as is now Marvel tradition. However as this teaser build off the events of Thor and very greatly off the events of Captain America, I’m embedding the footage after the cut to avoid spoiling anyone. Click at your own risk. The clip actually contains more footage from Captain America than The Avengers which is why I’m being so extra careful.

I will note first that this is NOT the full teaser following Captain America, just a portion of it. So its a teaser for a teaser. That works. If you have any interest in seeing The Avengers, it would be worth it to see Captain America, as its probably the best Marvel Studios movie since the original Iron Man started this march toward the team up 3 years ago.

SDCC 2011: Avengers Concept Art And Teaser Posters

Marvel Studios, without having an official presence at San Diego Comic Con, still managed to satisfy their base by releasing 7 character art posters and theater teaser poster for next year’s The Avengers.

The gallery included artwork showing Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow, Robert Downey Jr as Iron Man, Mark Ruffalo as Hulk, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Chris Evans as Captain America, Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye, Samuel L Jackson as Nick Fury, Cobie Smulders as Maria Hill, and Clark Gregg as Agent Caulson.

As you can see, these posters form a larger picture. I’ve ‘assembled’ the banners into a version larger than the one Marvel released. Click the banner here below to see the big version!

SDCC 2010: Joss Whedon OFFICIALLY directing Avengers

This is common knowledge at this point, but during one of the panels at SDCC, Joss Whedon was directly asked what his involvement was in the forthcoming Avengers film. His response was, “the Avengers directing job is not an official thing from Marvel but …I’m making it official RIGHT NOW!” So, there ya go. Joss Whedon is directing the Avengers. 20 minutes into the film, it will end prematurely and cause nerdrage throughout the internet causing countless online petitions to be started.

Powet Alphabet: J is for JJ, Joss, and Judd

Since the alphabet is the building block of our language, the Powet Alphabet is the building block of what makes us geeks.

thejs

What is this composite, amalgamated entity? If you’re a fan of anything Science Fiction, Science Fantasy, or generally geek, you’ve seen movies and/or TV shows by at least one of these three gentlemen — if not all three — even if you don’t know their names. Of the many things they have in common, the most obvious (and least important) is that all of their names start with “J”. I frequently can’t think of one without thinking of the other two. Together they are like some triune entity, the three faces of a Geek (not “Greek”) god.

Let’s explore their credentials together.

Serenity Returns To Theaters For Charity

serenitynow.jpg
Last year, Joss Whedon’s follow-up to brilliant-but-cancelled Firefly was given a special global re-release to support the charity Equality Now. They raised over $65,000, and they had such a good time, they’re doing it again.

Starting June 23rd, 50 cities will hold special screenings of Serenity with the aim of raising $100,000! Tickets are already on sale, and a screening last night in Dublin has already pulled in over $4300. Check here for cities and to buy tickets.

Dirty secret: Though I’m a fan of Firefly, I’ve never seen this movie. But its playing this Saturday and for a good cause, so I have to go!

Joss Whedon directs NBC’s Office

officecast.jpgShamelessly checking Jenna Fischer‘s Myspace blog, I noticed this tidbit among the din of losing the Golden Globe…

This week we are shooting with hot shot director Joss Whedon! This has been especially exciting for me because I already knew Joss. (He has known my husband for a long time.) Joss has quickly become one of our favorite directors. The crew loves him. He’s a huge fan of the show and therefore gets really into every detail of the show. He watches us even when we are in the background of a scene and compliments our smallest of choices. It’s been a total dream. I’m currently the background of a scene and I can see him hunched over the monitors watching a scene and giggling like a little girl. I’m going to miss him.

Geek Icon Joss Whedon takes on the Office? How terrible cool for him! Joss, as you may or may not know, got his start writing TV on Roseanne.

Of course, there’s always talk of special directors working on TV shows and you’d be really pressed to tell the difference. I remember at the height of Quentin Tarantino’s pop stardom between Pulp Fiction and Jackie Brown he directed an “ER” that was so amazingly exactly like every other ER that you’d never know or care someone more famous than normal was directing. That’s TV for you. If he does a good job, it shouldn’t be different from the rest of the show.
