MOTU Classics Roboto’s shoulders are backwards

Smarmy Prick

Take a deep breath, MOTU fans. Apparently, MOTU Classics Roboto’s shoulders are backwards. And they’ve been like that for months and noone noticed until today. Today, being 4 days before Roboto is set to go on sale at MattyCollector.com.

The images in this post are comparing pictures from SDCC 2010 to photos of the original Roboto figure, on which, this Classics figure is based. The Four Horsemen, who sculpted the new figure, are known for their attention to detail. Based on this, the way this quality control error was found was by the mismatching of the circuitry.

Now that we have established the facts, lets take a moment to reflect. This happened once before on the first release of He-Man, the first figure in the line. I pointed out the differences in the video comparison I made of the original release and the corrected re-issue. Many who bought the original figure swapped the shoulders themselves. This won’t be possible with Roboto because the arms are not removable from the new torso.

Some of the Club Eternia subscribers are very upset because they were asked to blindly pay for figures without knowing what they would be getting. Now they are being forced to accept a figure with known quality control problems. Many who chose not to subscribe and instead to purchase their figures individually on the site have stated that they will be skipping this release due to the newfound error, in addition to the statement that Roboto’s reissue will have both hands removable (though I cannot find where this has been stated). In the MattyCollector “Ask Matty” forum, someone suggested bumping Roboto to a later month to fix this error and to use one of the bonus figures to fill the slot in the meantime. This is the scenario exactly described for the existence of the bonus figures. It seems pretty late in the game for that though. I’m sure that these misassembled figures are already in Digital River’s warehouse waiting to be shipped to subscribers. If comments in forums and blogs are any indication, many subscribers will be returning their Robotos to make it clear to Mattel that this is not acceptable.

On one hand, noone noticed it for over three months, on the other, that second detachable hand sure is a neat incentive to wait for the reissue.

SDCC 2010: Mattel’s DCUC, DCIH, Green Lantern Classics and more

There were lots of announcements on the DC front from Mattel. To see the full Mattypalooza panel that mostly focused on Ghostbusters, MOTU, and DC Universe, you can go here.

What was revealed at the panel for DC product in the Mattypalooza panel was almost entirely exclusive to MattyCollector.com.

Mattel held a separate panel just for DC Universe Classics and Green Lantern classics. You can watch the actual panel here and look below for highlights. I found it amusing that the first thing said in the DC Universe panel was that there would be more reveals in five minutes of this panel than there were in all the Hasbro panels. It makes me sad that he’s not far off the mark.

Continue on after the jump for more details.

SDCC 2010: MOTU Classics

Never one to disappoint with a display, Mattel had a huge statue of Prince Adam to show since he is this year’s exclusive ‘accessory’ to Orko. The big panel for MOTU is not until Saturday as far as I know. After the panel, I will update this post with any new information that will be revealed and there will be new information revealed.

Here’s what we know. Whiplash, Carnivus and Grizzlor are on display. There was a small somewhat blurry picture taken of a card that may or may not have accidentally been put out before anything was announced. It showed 6 characters names we have not previously seen on the slate for release with a release month for each. Those are as follows:
October – Roboto
November – Grizzlor
December – Buzz-Off
January – Bow
February – Vikor
March – King Hsss

Count me as super excited about Roboto and super perplexed by Vikor. Anyone know who he is? Post in the comments with links or info!
Bow is the male character from She-Ra that wasn’t a bad guy. Glad to see that some other series’ are still getting attention, but I’d like to see more.
Also on display was a very nice Silver She-Ra. Similar to the Spirit of King Grayskull figure, it is super limited to a total of two and one will be given away to a lucky attendee via a raffle for charity. On a lighter note, Mattel had some Moss Man deodorant. I’m not sure if that was a freebie or what it was aside from highly amusing.

Action Figure Pics had a very nice MOTU gallery here from Preview Night.
Michael Crawford had a nice gallery of closeups on the 3 upcoming displayed figures here.

Images of She-Ra and Deodorant are mirrored from ActionFigurePics.com.
Images of Carnivus, Gygor, Grizzlor and Whiplash are mirrored from Michael Crawford‘s site.

SDCC 2010: Mattel’s Ghostbusters display

ToyArk has some good photos of the Ghostbusters display from Mattel. 3 basic things were on display.
The retro-action style figures based on The Real Ghostbusters cartoon.
The 12 inch Movie Masters figures.
The 6 inch Movie Masters figures.

Here’s where its a litte more interesting. The 6 inch figures are actually a 4 pack based on their Ghostbusters 2 uniforms and are scheduled to be released as a Toys R Us exclusive.

Not much more to it than that. There was a decided lack of ghosts as was abundantly evidenced by their diorama display of the 4 characters facing a light wall aiming their proton guns at nothing in particular. We will probably know more after the Mattel panel. Once I get more news, I will update it in this post. For now, check out some of the mirrored images from the ToyArk after the jump.
