Brand-New Totaka’s Song Discovery!

Submitted by Powet reader Nathanael Wade, we have some blurry video from an Animal Crossing E-Reader card. I’ll take some legible video once I track the card down for myself, but for now: here’s some of what you get when you scan Animal Crossing card #P15…

Lost Classics: WWF Attitude (PS1, N64, Dreamcast)

701388-602369-games_cover-resized200.jpgWithout a doubt, we associate Acclaim with some of the worst games ever made. However, they’ve also had the longest run with the WWF licence. Up until the late 90s though, wrestling titles were only limited to a niche audience. All that changed with WWF Warzone. This title laid the foundation for wrestling games today as we know them. It included solid presentation, color commentary, and the one thing that’s pretty much a requirement in today’s wrestling games: create-a-wrestler. With this feature, it was possible to put yourself in the game, bring in a wrestler that was left out the cast, or even recreate a character from another wrestling organization. However, there were two major issues players had with the game, namely the small and out-of-date roster and lack of match types.  In an attempt to address these issues, (and perhaps spurred on by THQ’s WCW/NWO Revenge released later that year) Acclaim went back to work on WWF Attitude, which stands as one of the finest early wrestling games made at the time.

Head Exec at Cartoon Network resigns

Cartoon Network LogoNewsarama has a note up saying that Jim Samples, the head executive officer at Cartoon Network resigned on Friday due to fall out from the guerilla marketing campaign gone wrong in Boston for the upcoming Aqua Teen Hunger Force movie. In an internal memo to the company, Samples stated that he hoped his resignation would allow this event to be put in the past and allow the company to move forward. The article goes on to say that he had been with the company for 13 years.

You can read the rest of the internal memo in the article here.

Speaking as a Bostonian, this is another footnote in an embarassing chapter of history for the city of Boston.

Live Action Sailor Moon movie?

Probably not. Like 99% probably not and that’s me being optimistic. Regardless this unreliable source is reporting that there is an English live action Sailor Moon movie in the works and that “one of the major movie studios” is trying to get Joss Whedon to direct. The article goes on to reveal the most absurb cast including a mix of people who are too good for such a role to people I’ve never even heard of. This cast sounds just like any other random idiot’s “Who would you cast in a live action Sailor Moon movie?” list which I must admit I’ve read and written far too many of.

This is not the first rumour of a live action Sailor Moon movie. About 10 years ago you couldn’t go long before hearing about Geena Davis‘s Sailor Moon movie she was set to star in as Queen Beryl. Since then such rumours occasionally resurface in one form or another.

So why am I telling you this? Because someone said it. Because it’s probably fake but it’s of interest. Because when they first announced the Japanese live action series I was 99+% sure it was fake.

I guess now we just have to wait for some idiot to ask Joss Whedon about this before that < 1% bit of doubt is put to rest.

Shazam! The Monster Society Of Evil #1 (of 4)Shazam! The Monster Society of Evil #1 (of 4)
story and art by Jeff Smith

What’s that? Can’t read the title of the post? Well, thank God you’ve got your handy dandy Secret Decoder! What’s that? You don’t? Oh. Well, thank God I’ve got a spare!

This is the kind of effort that Jeff Smith (known for his career-defining work on Bone) is putting into this book. He’s been providing regular updates on his blog, using the code-speak as an added treat, and he says it’ll even be handy when you’re actually reading the book. For example, take a quick glance HERE, and see not only his mindset about putting Talking Tawny in the book, but also the process of creating the art for the page. And hell, you even get another chance to use the decoder. Interested? Don’t even know who Captain Marvel is? Want some preview pages? Well, read on for more!

New Dreamcast Game

Karous for the Sega DreamcastWHAT? That’s right. According to Sega’s Japanese website a new game titled “Karous” will be released in Japan on March 8th on the Sega Dreamcast. Yes the Sega Dreamcast. Sega announced over 6 years ago on January 31st 2001 that they would cease production of the Dreamcast.

The game is a top view spaceship shooter somewhat similar to another Dreamcast game, Ikaruga, which was released in September of 2002, long after the console’s end of life. In the long period of time since the system’s death there have still been a handfull of games released for it. Could this finally be the last?

Since this game will only be released in Japan it could only be played in North America through some sort of piracy and we all know that’s not possible on the Dreamcast…

Check out the game’s official site for more information about Karous.

Thanks to Sega nerds for the scoop.

$20 Game of the Week: Fable – The Lost Chapters (PC, Xbox)

fable_the_lost_chapters_small_7.jpgEver since the original Xbox was developed, one of the most anticipated games for the system was Project Ego, a game being developed by Peter Molyneux’s Lionhead studios. This game promised an evolving world and character development system. Your character (who you decided would be good or evil based upon your actions), would age over time, even retaining scars that he earned in battle years ago. You could even marry, settle down, and have a family. You would even compete with other heroes in the world for fame and recognition, and a multiplayer mode would allow other player’s heroes to travel about in your world.

Manny Coto’s “Enterprise”

Enterprise Crew

If you haven’t seen it, it’s probably is as bad as you’ve heard. If you’ve watched it, you probably didn’t see much or any of the fourth season. That’s a shame, because that’s when the show actually got good.

Both Star Treks Voyager and Enterprise are the brainchild of Brannon Braga, a scriptwriter-turned-producer from the days of Next Generation. His signature trademark consists of stories based on strange temporal/spatial anomolies, hence their preponderance in Voyager (and indeed the premise of the entire show), and the ill-advised Temporal Cold War that consumed Star Trek: Enterprise from the inside out.

The beginning of the fourth season saw Braga replaced by Manny Coto, who put an end to this horrible storyline. What followed were several three-episode arcs dealing with Trek history. From Kahn-like genetically-enhanced humans, to the history of Surak and Vulcan, and an explanation for the Frito-Lay (i.e. “ridgeless”) Klingons of Kirk’s era, this season fulfilled the inherent promise and potential of the series after three grueling years.
