Gears of War 3 Beta Preview Video – Dedicated Execution

Gears Of War’s first two entries contained memorable single player and co-op modes that few other games could touch.

The online multiplayer for both left a lot to be desired, being riddled with balance problems and lag. Even when they were fixed, many in the community had moved on to other games. Epic is making a huge effort to insure Gears Of War 3 ships with a great multiplayer out of the box with an actual beta test this time around.

The unspoken truth of this preview video is that if they did a beta for Gears 2 as well, it might not have been unplayable shit for the first 2 months after release. Here is hoping Gears 3 might spin a little longer in the disc tray and have an online game worthy of its single player.

Street Fighter X Tekken Captivate 2011 Trailers and Screens!

The game was announced a year ago, and isn’t due until 2012, but even with only a handful of characters shown, Street Fighter X Tekken is looking well. Capcom has released 2 new trailers, one consisting of cinematics and another of gameplay, as well as a poster and 10 screen shots.

The SF character retain their look from Street Fighter 4, and the Tekken characters seem to be making the transition to Capcom’s gameplay and art style very well.

However, Tekken sukz and Street Fighter Rulz lol, so this game can finally put and end to that argument.

Botcon 2011 Comic Teaser: Trypticon Prison

@Botcon twitter account gave us a peek at the new convention comic by showing us a panel featuring the Trypticon Prison. The name of the story is called The Stunti-Con Job and promises to be a treat for Transformers Animated fans with designs by Derrick Wyatt (Art Director for the show), story by Marty Isenberg (Story Director for the series, and art by Marcelo Matere (IDW artist who pencilled the Animated comic).

@mmatere @DerrickJWyatt Here tis! Trypticon Prison… WAIT till you see the guards! đŸ˜€ http://twitpic.com/4jo26b

If they are continuing their plans for the show in the comic and if the Allspark Almanac was any indication, the guards would have been minicons. It is more likely, though, that we will see some other repaints as the guards though in order to include characters that would be included in the convention souvenir sets. We’ll know soon!

Lost Classics: Game Genie (NES, SNES, Genesis, Game Gear, Game Boy)

Remember back in the days when cheat codes were the holy grail of video games? What gamer worth their salt didn’t remember the Konami code? How about the Sonic cheat that made our favorite blue hedgehog turn into anything and replicate himself? Looking for the perfect Mega Man 3 password that put you outside the gates of Dr. Wily’s castle with 9 energy tanks and using the second controller to jump super high? How about punching in the ‘blood code’ for Mortal Kombat on Genesis, or the more cooler and useful “DULLARD”? One device, like no other, gave us access to an unlimited amount of game-changing cheats…provided you could figure them out.

$20 Game of the Week: EA MMA (PS3, Xbox 360)

Disclaimer: While I enjoy watching Mixed Martial Arts, I don’t keep up with it (or for that matter other sports) as frequently as I should. Thus, my knowledge of the sport extends little beyond this game.

MMA is the new Professional Wrestling. Of course unlike Pro-wrestling, MMA is very real and very brutal, and it has been increasing in popularity. So much in fact, that THQ teamed up with the UFC to bring UFC Unleashed to consoles, so it seems only natural that EA Sports wants to throw its hat into the ring (maybe that should be cage). While EA MMA isn’t perfect, it puts together a good package and manages to give THQ a run for its money.

Powet Alphabet: O is for ONI (Halo)

The Halo series has its share of heavy military reference material. There is perhaps none more completely mystified on the human side than the Office of Naval Intelligce, or ONI (pronounced in fiction as “Oh-nee”).

There is no in-fiction date of formation for ONI, but it is likely an extension of the current United States ONI, originally commissioned in 1882. The modern US ONI has the stated purpose of tracking enemy and friendly ships throughout the globe in order to assess threats to the homeland, and is one of the oldest branches of the US intelligence community though handled by the armed forces.
