E3 2016 – EA: MAss Effect Andromeda, FIFA, and Battlefield 1

EA Held its press conference yesterday. They didn’t have much in the way of surprises, there was a few new looks at this year’s FIFA, Mass Effect: Andromeda, Titanfall 2 and Battlefield 1. As for Mass Effect, we didn’t see much, but it hinted at the story being about finding a new home for humanity. Another trailer for Battlefield 1 was shown, and we saw more of its melee-combat. With black and female protagonists, biplane battles, and melee combat, Battlefield I looks to give players a whole new look at WWI. FIFA 17 was the most intriguing title of the bunch. Not only will the game be powered by DICE’s Frostbite Engine, but the game will feature a storymode, in which you play as an up and coming kicker named Alex Hunter (the guy you see above) and take him to the top of the Primer League. Titanfall 2 looks to improve on its predecessor in every way, and will even include a single-player campaign mode this time! Finally, EA gave us a look at what it’s planning with the Star Wars franchise. Along with a new Battlefront for 2017 developed in cooperation with Motive (the new company formed by Assassin’s Creed’s Jade Redmond), Visceral and Respawn are also working on new Star Wars titles that will be released throughout the next couple of years. Check out the trailers below.

Legion Headed to FX in Early 2017

While Agent Carter and Marvel’s Most Wanted have been canceled, next year will see at least one new Marvel character hit the small screen. An 8 episode season of the X-men spinoff Legion has been ordered by FX, and it will be produced as a joint effort between Fox and Marvel Studios. With showrunner Noah Hawley (Fargo) at the helm, Legion stars Downton Abbey’s Dan Stevens as the title character, who in the comics is the illegitimate son of professor Charles Xavier. He’s a mutant with multiple personality disorder, and each personality has it’s own power. Longtime Marvel fans know he’s responsible for not one, but two Alternate realities, the Age of Apocalypse, and the Age of X. It remains to be seen how this is incorporated in the show. The status of Marvel and Fox’s other show, Hellfire, is up in the air as it’s two showrunners, Evan Katz and Manny Coto departed to work on 24 Legacy.

$20 Game of the Week: Lego Marvel Super Heroes

With Captain America and the X-men having made their way back into theaters last month, now is a good time to look at one of the finest digital adventures featuring Marvel’s pantheon of heroes and villains. Before licencing issues would force Marvel to disavow the existence of any property whose movie rights were controlled by Fox, and before the company’s gaming department chose to focus on free-to-play mobile games, Marvel fans of all ages were treated to an excellent look at the Marvel Universe, Lego style, courtesy of Warner Brothers and Traveler’s Tales. Waitaminute….Warner Brothers? As in DC Warner Brothers? Well it’s simple. Warner Brothers has the licence to publish Lego Games, Lego has a licence to make toys based on Marvel characters, so it was only a matter of time before this game was made, and it excels as both a Marvel game and a Lego game.
