The rumors have been officially confirmed. Gabriel Luna (True Detective, Matador) will be taking the role of Robbie Reyes, a.k.a the Ghost Rider on Agents of Shield this forthcoming season. For those who don’t read the comics, Robbie Reyes is the most recent person to take the mantle of the spirit of vengeance. After losing his parents, Reyes lives along with his younger brother Gabe. When he is gunned down by gangbangers, Reyes becomes the Ghost Rider after being bonded with the spirit of Eli Morrow, a victim of gang violence. Rather than using a motorcycle like his predecessors, Reyes instead drives a souped-up muscle car. Instead of having a flaming skull, he wears a skull helmet that’s on fire.

If you’re disappointed that Ghost Rider is a character on Agents of Shield, remember, Reyes isn’t the only Ghost Rider in the comics, and it’s still possible for Marvel to make a movie or Netflix series with the original Ghost Rider, Johnny Blaze (and of course Nick Cage would be nowhere near it this time). While Ghost Rider is an odd choice for Agents of Shield, but then again so were Deathlok and the Inhumans, and they fit quite nicely. It’s great to see Marvel TV dip more into the comics to supplement Agents of Shield.

Walter Hill’s cult classic The Warriors, which was based upon the novel by Sol Yurick, will be getting a TV series adaptation on Hulu courtesy of the Russo brothers, whom poweteers know as the directors of the last two Captain America films and the next two Avengers films. The original film, released in 1979 told the tale of the Warriors gang as they had to fight their way back to their home base of Coney Island after being framed for the murder of a charismatic gang leader. The film became famous for its outlandish gang member outfits. The film was quite controversial for its day, as acts of violence broke out in a small amount of theaters showing the film. The film gained a following among hip hoppers as well. Craig Mack’s Flava in ya ear remix video opened with the familiar “come out and play” bottle clacking, and the video for Jim Jones/Diplomat’s “Crunk Music” featured scenes inspired by the film. As of now not much is known about the film save that the directors promise that it will “honor the original film while adding its own unique brand of grit, pulp, sex and violence.” Coincidentally, today is also the day that Rockstar’s critically acclaimed video game adaptation is available on the PLaystation 4 as a Playstation 2 classic title. The 2005 brawler served as a prologue to the film, and players got an in-depth look at the Warrior’s world. The game features 1080p upscaling as well as trophies. If you’re a fan of the movie, you’ll want to check it out.

While Agent Carter and Marvel’s Most Wanted have been canceled, next year will see at least one new Marvel character hit the small screen. An 8 episode season of the X-men spinoff Legion has been ordered by FX, and it will be produced as a joint effort between Fox and Marvel Studios. With showrunner Noah Hawley (Fargo) at the helm, Legion stars Downton Abbey’s Dan Stevens as the title character, who in the comics is the illegitimate son of professor Charles Xavier. He’s a mutant with multiple personality disorder, and each personality has it’s own power. Longtime Marvel fans know he’s responsible for not one, but two Alternate realities, the Age of Apocalypse, and the Age of X. It remains to be seen how this is incorporated in the show. The status of Marvel and Fox’s other show, Hellfire, is up in the air as it’s two showrunners, Evan Katz and Manny Coto departed to work on 24 Legacy.

This past August, there were reports that Fox was interested in bringing a live action X-men series to TV. Today, we got details on two new series that are coming to TV thanks to a partnership between Fox and Marvel TV. Hellfire will be coming to Fox while Legion will be coming to FX with a pilot already being ordered. Both projects are executive produced by X-men movie director Bryan Singer, with Legion having Noah Hawley (Fargo) attached to it as head writer. Hellfire will take place during the late 60s and follow the exploits of the club of millionaire mutants that was introduced in X-men First class, and is features prominently in the comics. A special agent investigates the group after learning that a powerful woman is in charge of the group. Legion will tell the story of Charles Xavier’s illegitimate son, David Haller, a powerful mutant with schizophrenia. While there are obviously no details in the way of date, stars, timeslot, or even if these shows are in X-men movie continuity, this is certainly exciting news for fans of Marvel’s merry mutants. It’s even more surprising to see Marvel TV and Fox working together in spite of Fox’s stinginess over the X-men and Fantastic Four rights.

According to the website Deadline, a new Mega Man animated series in in the works from Man of Action, producers of shows such as Ben 10 and Ultimate Spider-Man. A 26-episode series is planned for 2017, although there are currently no details about what network it will air on or its release schedule. Although fans aren’t too fond of MOA’s current effort Ultimate Spider-Man, I personally enjoyed the show. It doesn’t take itself too seriously, and the animation would work quite well with Mega Man. Besides, it’s not like it can be any worse than Captain N’s green dwarf with a speech impediment, the Ruby-Spears series from the 90s, or the bat-guano-insane Brazilian comic. This is probably the closest we’ll get to a new game for now. Then again, there’s also Mighty Number 9, which is available for pre-sale on Steam.

If any of you have been caught up with the premiere of Daredevil on Netflix over the past week and a half like we have, we have some good news for you! Netflix has ordered a second season of Daredevil for 2016. We’ll have more of the man without fear soon.

In the meantime, we have “A.K.A. Jessica Jones”, another Netflix exclusive Marvel series, to look forward to later this year on Netflix, with Luke Cage coming in 2016. Also in the pipeline are Iron Fist, followed by the Defenders series.

Hot on the heals of the Community cancellation announcement, NBC has released a trailer for their upcoming Constantine series. The series is based on the Hellblazer comics from DC and follows John Constantine, a paranormal detective of sorts. Constantine will be coming to NBC on Fridays this fall.

Celebrating the 75th anniversary of the caped crusader, DC Entertainment has released an animated short from Bruce Timm. The short is a throw back to the 40’s era of Batman’s origin featuring Hugo Strange, one of the dark knight’s very first recurring villains. We will reportedly be seeing more anniversary related treats soon. Keep your eyes peeled!
