The Powet Top 5 – Favorite Childhood Games

It’s no secret that many of us at Powet are and have always been life-long gamers. I think one of the most interesting things you can ask anyone who is a gamer is “what were your top 5 games growing up”? Depending on generation they grew up in or what system they played, the answers will generally be very different. I grew up with an NES and later graduated to the Genesis, I was also fortunate enough to have a local arcade, so here’s my top 5:

Amazon Gold Box Deal: Transformers movie trilogy marked down

The Amazon Gold Box Deal of the Day features both the DVD and Blu-Ray edition of the Transformers trilogy of movies today. They have been marked down significantly. The DVD edition has been marked down to 17.99 from 40.99 and the Blu-Ray edition has been marked down to 29.99 from 76.99. I believe a newer edition of the trilogy will be forthcoming with lots of extras not inlcuded in these sets, but this price is pretty hard to ignore. If you want to help our site and get a great deal at the same time, use the links below to purchase these sets!

The trilogy includes:
Transformers
Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen
Transformers: Dark of the Moon

[UPDATE] I added in the 7 disc collectors set that is both Blu-Ray and DVD because it is also $60 off.

Resident Evil 6 Official Trailer Released

If you haven’t seen it yet, it looks like Capcom decided to pull out all the stops and release a full trailer of the highly anticipated Resident Evil 6.

Between this, Operation: Raccoon City for consoles this Spring, and Revelation for the 3DS to be released in a few weeks, it’s looking like 2012 is ripe for a return to the roots of good old-fashioned zombie-killing.

Resident Evil 6 is slated for release on November 20th, 2012.

Botcon 2012 Exclusive Metalhawk revealed

Here is the big reveal of the final figure in the Botcon 2012 exclusive set of figures, Metalhawk. He uses the Thunderwing mold with a new head showing the humanoid head of Metalhawk’s Pretender shell. Below you can see some concept art of what the head was meant to look like along with some art from Evan Gauntt from the Botcon facebook page.
I think the helmet could have used some more color, but not bad. This is one of the more interesting figures from the set for sure. Let us know what you think in the comments!

I’m torn deciding if this is the worst thing ever made or the greatest. Help me out here, folks. Leave a comment because I’m pretty speechless.

Pingu’s The Thing

Pingu's The Thing - Remake of John Carpenter's The Thing

Today is John Carpenter’s 64th birthday. To celebrate, here’s a remake of his 1982 hit film “The Thing” done entirely in claymation in the style of Pingu.

As of this post being published the film has been seen by 885,887 people, which may be more people than watched the 2011 remake…

Check out more videos like this at leehardcastle.com, which also has these storyboards of Pingu’s The Thing.

Napoleon Dynamite animated series first impressions

Napoleon Dynamite cartoon - Napoleon, Pedro and Deb in the cafeteria

Tonight Fox premiered the first two episodes of the new Napoleon Dynamite TV series. Is this a new hit for Fox’s Animation Domination block or will it go the way of Allen Gregory?

I’m a huge fan of the Napoleon Dynamite movie, so I was both worried and excited at the prospect of a show. Despite the excitement of an animated version of a favourite movie of mine, there’s always the concern that this would turn out to be a piece of garbage that’s an insult to the film, like other animated series based on great movies such as Spaceballs and Strange Brew.

It’s still a bit early to make any final judgements, but I found the show to be pretty funny. Though not as consistently funny as the film, each episode included some pretty solid jokes which made me laugh, which really is all you can ask for from a comedy. The show was reminiscent of the movie, and although some dialogue seemed unnaturally repetitive from what we’ve heard, the general tone seemed pretty consistent, while adding a certain level of cartoon silliness as we can only expect from such a show.

Soul Calibur V New Trailers

The other day I saw this trailer for Soul Calibur V and thought “Oh, I bet the folks over at Powet would like this” and made a mental note to post it.

Well, it has only been a day and another trailer is already up. Soul Calibur V will be released at the end of this month.

If you want to see a hands on preview of the game, Sean played it in Tokyo and liked it!
